This man almost doubled his muscle mass. His dark brown hair had subtle streaks of red throughout. His eyes were green with hints of gold. They were the most amazing things I had ever seen. Looking at him made my heart pound. His eyes were focused on mine as he held my gaze. The scar on the left side of his neck was faded, the sight of it enraged me. I didn’t know why I was so upset about him being hurt. I felt myself begin to get lost in his eyes when my mind snapped me out of it.

Justine returned my look, and I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm okay with it." He extended his arm, and Dr. Melendez came in closer, placing himself in close proximity to our group and Justine's firearm. He pulled his spectacles up his bulbous nose and looked down at the two crescent moon scars on my right arm. They'd healed well and were no anymore red and swollen, but the scars' whiteness made them easily distinct from my natural tan tone.

He turned and strode out of the lounge, his gait heavy and predatory. Kaelira sat frozen, her wrist still burning where he had touched her. She looked down at the table. In the hard mahogany, where Zayden’s fingers had been, were four deep, scorched indentations. He hadn't just gripped the table. He had nearly crushed it with his bare hands. Kaelira wiped the blood from her finger, she noticed something that made her breath hitch. The small cut wasn't just healing—it was knitting itself back together before her very eyes, leaving behind a faint, silver scar in the shape of a crescent moon.

"Thanks for taking my side. I barely have any friends… If I lost you too, I don't know how I'd go on. I might as well just die." Zada pulled her into a hug. "Don't you dare say that! We're gonna live, both of us. We'll always be there for each other." Sierra nodded. "Okay." She pressed a hand to her bandaged forehead. "Ugh, it hurts so much. The doctor said it might leave a scar. I'll end up looking like a monster." Zada's heart squeezed. "No way. A scar? Don't freak out. When you're better, I'll go with you to a clinic. We'll fix it, and you'll look amazing again."

“Not just good – amazing.” “One hundred percent amazing,” Jo said solemnly. “Thought so.” Scars held out a huge hand and she took it, felt the raised skin there. Without even looking, Jo knew that he had more scars on his hands and briefly wondered what he must look like under his jeans and blue t-shirt and cut: she’d heard from Jinx that the fire had burned Scars so badly, he’d needed reconstructive skin grafting on his back and legs. “It’s a pleasure, Jo.”

I do my best not to growl at her, but my sister tests my patience on a daily basis. She huffs and rolls her eyes at me, taking a seat across from my desk. Renz walks in and takes the seat next to her. “Oh my Goddess! Renz! What happened to your face?” Viviana exclaims now that she has a closer look at Renz. His face has some pretty nasty scars. The only way to get scars like that would be if his wolf was suppressed and he wasn’t allowed to heal.

Isak groaned as he kissed down my stomach, his fingers already busy with my jeans. “I don’t know about that.” I blushed as he kissed the claw mark scar on my right side. “It was training, and I didn’t let Mikali heal me. I’m human…a hunter… scars are normal.” I explained, feeling his eyes on me as he traced the scar. “I hope the wolf that dared to mar your skin suffered worse.” Isak’s voice was harsh despite his soft kisses over the scar. “Yes,” I assured him… or maybe that was just a moan as I raised my hips to help him pull my jeans and underwear off.

She had no strength to hold them but managed to see them—alive, perfect, breathing. Three boys. She looked at them between her legs, and without strength, raised her hand and pulled them toward her, one by one. And she noticed their ears—one on each of them. A cut. An identical scar, marked with a greenish light that shimmered like liquid jade. The energy pulsed as if those wounds were fissures. And then, just as quickly as it had come, the light disappeared. Maya let her head fall to the side and, drenched in sweat and relief, fainted with a smile on her face.

But as Aria closed her eyes in relief, her bond with the Moon Goddess stirred faintly once more…not in warning, but in quiet acknowledgment. Victory always came at a cost. And the scars left behind would take time to heal.
