I touched Ulysses’ back, feeling hot, sticky blood seep through my fingers, the metallic scent stinging my eyes.
“Ulysses?” I cried out, watching in disbelief as he collapsed to the ground. His clothes were torn, and the red lights that had embedded themselves into him began to take form, falling to the ground as fish scales.
I picked one up and realized it was as sharp as a blade. The scales were large, the size of my palm, with edges so sharp they could slice through flesh. Each scale gleamed with an ominous red glow.
