Zara cried out, standing close to Jace. Jace kept glaring at me like he had a lot more to say. There was unexplained silence for a while. “Jace!” A voice called out, and our eyes went in that direction, it was his girlfriend. She ran toward us. “There you are! I knew I’d find you here. Going around searching for your bestie, even when your girlfriend says otherwise,” she said. “Amber, please. I can’t leave her to deal with this alone,” Jace replied, waving her off.

“We won’t let you get away unless you tell us who that girl is!” Jace hardly closed his eyes, losing his patience. “Fine!! My girlfriend is that woman!!” All of the girls surrounding Jace shifted their gaze towards me. I looked at them puzzled then I looked at Jace and pointed at myself. “M-Me?” “She’s your girlfriend?” “Jace has a girlfriend already?!” “That’s right.” Jace put his arms over my shoulders again. “So from now on, stop chasing me anymore. Oh, and don’t you dare do anything bad to my girlfriend, or else you’ll have to pay to me.”

Jace said starting the car, trying to end the conversation. Nora felt hurt, she felt rejected. She didn't know why it bothered her so. She should be happy that he was thinking about her and putting her first but this small annoying part of her wondered if Jace wanted Cole to mark her. What if he didnt? What if he didn't want to be linked to her because of what she was? Jace looked over at her and could feel the rush of sadness coming off of her. He wanted to console her. Wanted her to know it wasn't hurt but he couldn't. He was fighting Cole.

Skyler's grip on my waist tightened. "I respected that," Jace continued. "Backed off completely. And seeing you two now—" He smiled genuinely. "I'm glad I did. This is clearly where she belongs." The tension in Skyler's body eased fractionally. "Appreciate you saying that." "Besides, I'm seeing someone now. A she-wolf from the Cascade Pack. Nothing serious yet, but..." Jace shrugged. "Point is, I'm not here to complicate anything. Just wanted to see what my friend has built."
