I'm able to wiggle out of his grasp, thinking Matthew is behind me, my heart skips a beat in relief. I turn around and see a giant monster appear in front of both of us. While I'm scared, Jackson is downright terrified by the massive beast. It looks like a wolf at first glance, but there's no way it could be. The animal is the size of a double-decker bus, with teeth larger than those of a megalodon shark. I have a strong urge to go close to it and stroke its fur. While I move closer, Jackson takes a few steps back. My eyes grow wide when I notice another beast appearing behind him. When Jackson takes notice of my expression, he looks behind him, then back at me again with a look of disgust.

"Didn't your ears just hear what they said? Jackson is an eighth-degree black belt from the capital! Don't embarrass your name further by underestimating their high skills!" My mouth smirks slightly. "An eighth-degree black belt? Is that simple track supposed to impress my wolf?" Cora grits her teeth hard at my apparent ignorance. Jackson had been one of the top young fighters across the entire Beacon Moon Territory even before going abroad, training in physical martial arts since he was a small pup. Sure, my hands had taken down Stiles's enforcer, Bobby, at the border clinic, but Jackson was in a completely different league of power altogether.

Jackson noticed my movements slowing down and took advantage of the opening immediately. He threw his massive weight against my side, tackling me hard right on the slippery edge of the muddy cliff. The ground completely gave way beneath our weight, crumbling into a minor landslide of rocks and dirt. I clawed desperately at the mud, trying to find a grip, but my weak paws just slid right off the wet stones. "Die, you bitch," Jackson growled as he bit down hard on my front leg, using his weight to drag me further down. With a final, violent twist, he kicked off my body and scrambled back up to the safe ledger of the cliff.

The fool. I turned towards the border, smelling them before I saw them. The smell of rotten garbage and body odor was unmistakable. I kept my eye on the tree line, watching as they came into view. I hated rogues, the smell of them, the sight of them. They disgusted me, but I needed them for this plan to work. I needed them to distract the pack warriors. Jackson, the rogue leader, stopped in front of me, shifting from his mangy, muddy brown wolf into a 6’0” tall, naked man.

It’s not often I walk around the streets on a shopping trip; we normally head for my favourite stores, and he’s very good at car to door transport when Wes is with us and can deposit and collect us without parking issues. Jackson spies the hot dog vendor too and gets that same face he gets when we visit the sorbet shop. Wide-eyed childish excitement and I can practically see him salivating. The guy likes to eat and despite great DNA he is a lot more padded around the midriff than his cousins. Family resemblance is strong, but Jackson is just a lot cuddlier than most of the hard-bodied people in his family. I saw a lot worse in my line of work, but every time I came across something like this, I couldn't help but feel sad. Jackson was tall, with dirty blond hair bordering to red and freckles scattered all over his cheeks and nose. He had a babyish face. If he was a comic book character, he'd definitely be Archie. The desk across from the bed was flat on the floor, along with papers and stationery which appeared to be scattered everywhere. A black diary was face down.

Madison Jackson spotted us and smiled, that same crooked smile that used to appear when he'd finally solved a difficult math problem. He weaved between tables toward us. "Madison! Hazel!" He spread his arms wide. "You both look amazing!" Hazel, who had been ready to verbally destroy him moments ago, stood up and accepted his hug like they were long-lost relatives. "Jackson! What a surprise! We were just saying how it's been forever!" I caught her eye over his shoulder and mouthed, "Traitor." She responded with a subtle shrug that clearly meant, "But he's hot now."

He wore the wig, then fixed the mustache on and then, lastly, he pulled off his shirt. If I wasn't able to control my reaction, I would have screamed in shock. The man has a fine chiseled back. Damn.

I internally cringed; that must’ve hurt! Slowly, the paws morphed back into hands, the hair retracted from his face and arms, his face returned to normal, leaving him unconscious. Wolfs bane!
