Well, at least people wouldn’t think to look for me here. As I entered the hotel, I turned on the TV in my room to see if there were any updates on the pack rivalry issues. What I saw instead surprised me and I stared at the screen with my mouth wide open. “This just in, we have just received word that the Black Moon alpha announced in high profile that he has found his luna. She is reportedly the best ballet dancer of the Blue Moon pack!”

Supermoon is really welcoming in all the Red Moon members and making their transition a smooth one. Just as the food starts getting served Jake, Greg, and Scott come back in. They all look annoyed but they greet their pack members as they make their way to the head table. “Miss me, my love?” Jake asks Sonya. “Always.” Sonya stands up and hugs him before Jake gives her a passionate kiss. “Red Moon and Supermoon please join together in fellowship. Let’s eat.” Alpha Scott’s voice booms around the room. The whole place becomes loud with conversations and laughing. Sonya couldn’t help the smile on her face as she knows that they have made the right move combining everyone.

I see them both lock eyes and have a look of utter shock on their faces. “MATE!” I hear them both say in unison. I look from one to the other and you can see that neither one expected to meet this way. Jacob is twenty one years old and I know that he had all but given up on ever finding his mate. Most wolves find their mates on their 18th birthday but so far Jacob hadn’t been so lucky. Who knew that he had been looking in the wrong place this whole time. Maybe the Moon Goddess has more than one reason for sending this girl to us.

We turn at the same time to see Luka stepping out from the forest, his gold-tinted curls blowing about his face, his brown eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the river. He walks past, still not seeing us. Darius and I look at each other, then scramble up to follow him. Luka stops at the top of the river embankment. He passes his hand over his eyes. When he drops his hand again, he opens his eyes and they are a milky grey colour. The glow disappears from the sky and in the darkness a full moon rises. Not just any moon. I recognize this moon. So pale, so clear, it appears as if behind a layer of ice. The first full moon of the new year. The Wolf Moon.
