Mason’s voice came, low… cold.
Jake’s demeanor shifted instantly, sweat beginning to bead along his temple.
“Ma—son…” his voice shook.
“I see you were in the middle of something. Go ahead.”
Jake froze, then slowly stepped back toward the table, reaching for what looked like a pistol.
I rushed to Mason, who was already on his feet.
A gunshot rang out.
I flinched, covering my ears.
Jake collapsed to the floor, blood spreading from his abdomen.
“I want him alive,” Mason said coldly. “Until he wishes for death with every breath.”
