The muscles of his jaws tensed up, and his eyes moved to a certain point on the opposite wall. “The old Charles had died in that fire. This is my new life. I want to start over, with a new identity. From now on, don’t call me Charles. Call me Xander.” Owen Reid was stunned for a few seconds. Charles used to be jolly, but now he looked cold and aloof. This incident had changed him for sure. He was no longer the Charles he knew. He sighed deeply and looked down.

He stretched his hand out to him, and when he took it, he pulled him to his feet. "Does your presence now mean your bargain with Doom and Mischief is over?" Xavier raised a brow. "If it weren't, I wouldn't have been able to return." He answered, "I set out to return as soon as the three years elapsed." "That is good, then. I am glad to have you back." Edward flexed his jaw and scoffed in disbelief. "For a sick man, you hit hard." Xavier laughs a little. "I make it a duty to leave people in shock." This also made Edward laugh: "I am glad you see the humour in my words; Mia doesn't get how I can joke around in this state."

*** By the time I get home, I feel like I’ve been dragged through hell. My shoulders ache, my feet throb, and my head is so full of regret that it feels like a second heartbeat behind my eyes. I push open the apartment door, exhaling sharply as I step inside— And freeze. Because Xavier is sitting on the couch. Our mismatched, secondhand, falling-apart-at-the-seams couch. In a tailored suit that I'm sure costs more than my entire existence. The moment he sees me, he stands. And then, in a voice so quiet it barely makes it past the space between us, he whispers—

Xavier curse when his eyes falls on me. "I will call you later." He says into that stupid electric device, he then puts it in his pocket. I hate it when he talks to that stupid device, am his girlfriend not it. "Shit, shit, shit." Xavier rushes towards me, placing his warm, big James on both of my cheeks. His mouth begins to move, like he is saying something, bit its like my ears are been muted and I focus my eyes on how his lips curves, moving from one shape to another.

Still no character growth. But here's the kicker - Xavier wasn't just an emotionally constipated ex. He was a full-blooded Alpha werewolf with a god complex and the patience of a toddler. If he were easier to get rid of, I would've ghosted him into another dimension by now. I glanced down at my ankle - still sore, still wrapped - and then up at Xavier, who was radiating the kind of smug confidence only a man with Alpha energy. All right. Two can play this game.
