Bailey called out, playfully punching his nephew's arm. Lancelot's cold gaze fell on his. "Yes brother." James was standing in front of him now. "You should come have a drink with me. In the club, bang some whores..." James paused for a while, feigning a thoughtful expression before his lips folded with pity. "Ouch. Forgive me brother. I seemed to have forgotten that you have decided to tie Bran's chosen mate to your bed..." The words rolled out of James's tongue with all the venom that had arranged the words in his head.

James's gaze followed her, landing on my face, and he jumped up in excitement. "It's really you! You've finally come back to see me!" Tears flooded from his eyes, and he couldn't bear to close them, afraid it might be just an illusion. I lifted Darriane in my arms and looked at him coldly. "I came to see how you'd die." James stumbled toward me, pleading desperately. "I really know what I did wrong. Please, give me one more chance. Let's not be apart anymore. Please." I ignored his words, only smiling as I looked at Darriane.

Rose replied hastily while avoiding James's intense gaze burning into hers. James smirked knowingly but said nothing further on the matter as they resumed their conversation about business strategies leaving Rose feeling more tangled than ever within their web of secrets and lies. That night after returning to her room alone once again her thoughts spiraled out of control as memories flooded back: visions of Jennie’s fragile face battling leukemia mixed with images of James’s captivating smile haunted every corner of her mind she didn't forget to send a text of everything she heard to Chain, until sleep finally claimed her once more...

Harper James was different, he smiled more, and he was like a love-struck idiot. I have never seen him act this way with a girl before, especially one who is as mysterious as K is. James already warned me to stop being nosy, but I couldn’t help myself. There was something familiar about her from James’ drawings from years back. I was going to find out and all I needed to do was go through some of James’ old drawings to be sure.

They planned on just straight up killing the old man and praying they make it out of his super secret complex. “Fuck, I wish Enzo was here” I breathe, my head dropping back as I look at the ceiling, trying to figure out how to deal with everything. I’m disappointed as shit that James isn’t my mate. Well, ok, I WAS disappointed. Not so much now that I know he is mated to someone I care about, and she is pregnant with his kid. “Are you gonna make my mama happy?” James looked at me, panicked, then back at Lily. “I’m gonna try, kid. Every day. If she’ll let me.” Lily considered this. Then she nodded and pressed a paper flower into his hand. “Okay. But if you hurt her I’ll tell Miss Amina and she’ll ban you from cupcakes forever.” James looked like he might cry. “Fair deal. I don’t want to be banned from cupcakes.” After Lily fell asleep with a fever and James’s paper flower under her pillow, I stood in the kitchen with my arms around his waist. “You didn’t have to say that to her.”
