Harper James was different, he smiled more, and he was like a love-struck idiot. I have never seen him act this way with a girl before, especially one who is as mysterious as K is. James already warned me to stop being nosy, but I couldn’t help myself. There was something familiar about her from James’ drawings from years back. I was going to find out and all I needed to do was go through some of James’ old drawings to be sure.

They planned on just straight up killing the old man and praying they make it out of his super secret complex. “Fuck, I wish Enzo was here” I breathe, my head dropping back as I look at the ceiling, trying to figure out how to deal with everything. I’m disappointed as shit that James isn’t my mate. Well, ok, I WAS disappointed. Not so much now that I know he is mated to someone I care about, and she is pregnant with his kid. I grimace to myself. So fucked up.

“Are you gonna make my mama happy?” James looked at me, panicked, then back at Lily. “I’m gonna try, kid. Every day. If she’ll let me.” Lily considered this. Then she nodded and pressed a paper flower into his hand. “Okay. But if you hurt her I’ll tell Miss Amina and she’ll ban you from cupcakes forever.” James looked like he might cry. “Fair deal. I don’t want to be banned from cupcakes.” After Lily fell asleep with a fever and James’s paper flower under her pillow, I stood in the kitchen with my arms around his waist. “You didn’t have to say that to her.”

Coincidentally, James had today off as well and he had offered to take me into town on one of the older horses that wasn’t frequently used by the Wilders. I heaved a deep sigh. “Far from it actually,” I said, “I feel like shit.” James was the one friend that I could be completely honest with. “Tell me about it.” He concurred, making me smile. “The Rogue Alpha claims that I’m his mate and yet he treats me like a common slave.” James was quiet but I knew that he was surprised to gain this information. I continued, “I hate him, James. The tournament that is supposed to hold is subtly related to me because he plans to win so the Luna can let him claim me as his own.”

She said. "Whatever it is, I am ready." James walked to his drawer and brought out a spell book and a wand. "You don't really need your spell book." Zephyra said. "It is just a small spell." James wasn't disappointed. He needed someone of royal blood to permit him to cast a spell. He needed it desperately. "I want you to help me make some fushes appear so my father thinks that I caught them." "But wouldn't that be wrong?" "Will you cast the spell or not?" Zephyra made that sound as respectfully as she could.

Third Person's POV James couldn't pull his clothes on fast enough. He was eager to allow Sawyer to smell him for the first time. He hopes Sawyer likes the way he smells because he definitely loves the way Sawyer smells. His scent is so sweet, with a hint of cinnamon. Just the thought of his wonderful scent makes James' eyes close, and he bites his lip. A smile spreads across James' face, 'He didn't reject me!' With that last thought, James quickly leaves the bathroom.

He smiled unevenly at her and then slid out. --- The next morning, Luke was up for breakfast with James. Their tiny apartment was still a little sparse—half-unpacked boxes and a single picture of their mother on the wall—but they were starting to get it to feel like home. "Can I have extra syrup?" James asked, climbing up onto the kitchen stool in his Batman pajamas. "Just if you promise not to tell Rita I gave you a sugar high before school." "I promise on my sonar!" James answered seriously, saluting with a plastic lightsaber.

“Why not? Maybe this time, I’ll surprise you.” James smirked, the firelight casting shadows across his face. “We’ll see,” he said, moving his first pawn. *************** I sat on the plush white sofa, a steaming cup of tea balanced on the side table beside me. My fingers nervously played with the hem of my soft sweater, though my gaze was fixed on a figure at the far end of the room. James Valquez.

-She said and walked toward the van. James sat on the ground and watched as Luna pulled a couple of drinks out of the container in the van. Could she be pregnant? James knew it would take a little time to find out. The craving was eating him up inside, though. He wanted to be a father again. He wanted it, badly. He knew Portia would be more than happy with the news of a new brother or maybe a new sister. And his mother, God, his mother would be happier than ever. Her mother knew perfectly well who Luna was. Not the current one, no, she'd known her before, but James had talked to her a few months ago, confessing to her that Luna was the same Luna he'd told her about when he was in high school

Meanwhile, James couldn't do anything since they didn't face each other directly. "I know that girl is always running away from you. And now it's better if I pick her and her brother from your dungeon. Maybe she can be one of my slaves in my mansion. Or he could be Fratti's maid. We'll see about that later. Let's say that was a punishment because he didn't manage to kill you!" "FUCK! I KILL YOU IF YOU TOUCH HER!" yelled James angrily.
