“I’m fine. We have to keep going.” Jane moved across the stream with Carla’s help, pulling her the rest of the way. Xenia saw the state of Jane’s appearance and could barely hide the expression on her face. Jane found the tunnel and ushered everyone through. “XENIA!” Mason roared through Xenia’s mind, making her fall against the wall, clutching her head. “Come back now!” “Keep going,” Xenia urged the others as they heard guttural growls reverberating off the walls behind them. Jane jumped into action, digging up the bombs she left there before.

He ran so fast, till he suddenly found himself in daylight. The sun shined bright above him and he found he was still in the forest running, but his legs were much shorter. He was now a child. The person holding his hand was also a child. The other child turned around and glanced at him. "Run little rabbit," he said and the scene warped. Jason suddenly found himself inside a dark tent back in his university camping trip. He and Marcus were in his tent. Marcus was hiding from those outside. With both of them now in the small tent, Jason felt ackward.

One more second and it would be done, and there was a part of me that wanted it badly enough that I didn’t care about the consequences. “Mommy. Mommy, wake up.” Nora. I released him. Jason dropped without a sound, motionless on the forest floor. I didn’t look at him again. I turned and followed her voice through the smoke and found them on the ground near the base of the burning tree.

"Not true." "But Jason said so," Mason argued and turned away from Jarek. "Come with me." Jarek carried Mason and walked out of his study. Onyx rubbed his eye in disbelief while wondering if he had just had an illusion. When Jarek entered Jason and Mason's room, he saw Jason silently doing his homework. Jason raised his head upon hearing the door open, and he saw Mason being carried into the room by Jarek. His eyes met with Mason's snickering one, and he finally understood that Mason had schemed at him again.

“Protect the proof and catch the bad people.” He stared at the notebook then at me. One eyebrow lifted slowly. “Catch bad people?” he repeated. “Me?” I nodded quickly, leaning closer to him. “Yes. You are strong, I'm smart, Marcus will help Jamie too.” Right on cue, Jamie came running into the room, wearing a tiny mask that barely stayed on his face. “I’m ready!” Hanna followed behind him, laughing softly. “Look at him too cute.” Grayson let out a breath, shaking his head, but the smile on his face gave him away.

Dawn’s first pale light stretched across the horizon as Moonrunner’s engine purred to life. Jason sat at the wheel, his hands steady on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Beside him, Nathan checked the route notes on his tablet, while Mia and Aurora settled Angel and Malcolm into their seats behind Angel in her booster, and Malcolm strapped safely into his car seat. “First official run,” Jason said softly, glancing in the rear-view mirror at the two gleeful faces pressed against the glass.
