Before Jasper could react— She vanished. His eyes widened. Then suddenly— Ember was standing directly in front of him.

A few minutes later, a tall man in a dark suit entered his office — his personal assistant, but also someone Jasper trusted with private work. “Sir?” Adam said. “I want you to keep an eye on Miss Hale for a few days. Quietly. Don’t let her know.” Adam frowned slightly. “Is there a reason?” Jasper looked out the window. “She’s been on edge lately. I just want to be sure she’s safe.” “Understood,” Adam said, nodding. “And Adam,” Jasper added, “if anyone suspicious shows up near her, you call me first.” “Yes, sir.” When Adam left, Jasper sat for a moment, fingers tapping the desk slowly. He wasn’t sure why this mattered so much to him — she was just an employee. Smart, hardworking, mysterious.
