Jonathan's my older brother. I grumbled as I put on my hoodie and walked downstairs, as I neared the living room, I heard his and my mum's voice, but there was another deep and slightly unfamiliar one. I walked faster just to see the owner of that sexily deep voice, and I was not disappointed. He stood a few inches taller than Jonathan, black hair and beautiful sapphire eyes. Yup he'll do. "He's probably here to steal some more food." I said for them to acknowledge me.

Jessica whispered covering her mouth and the phone. “We agreed on that only if I succeeded in killing her! She's still alive” Jay yelled. “What?” Jessica asked in shock but she was quick to compose herself. “What do you mean she escaped?” Jessica yelled. Jay groaned scratching his head like a crazy man “That's, not the issue, she didn't escape” he said. “Do you know how crazy you sound right now? Can you be audible please?” Jessica asked in frustration. “She was rescued, the Black Blood came to get her, and guess what? The leader is actually Mr.Black William. I've never seen his face but last night was scary Miss Jessica. He killed all my men I was lucky to be hiding somewhere” he explained.

A reminder etched into me, linking us together. I swallowed hard. “So tell me. Who are you, really?” He hesitated, as if the question itself was dangerous. Then, slowly, he turned toward me, the fire in his eyes dimming into something more vulnerable. “My name is Damian Blackthorn. I was born before your world had names for gods. I have walked through empires that crumbled into dust, through wars written out of your history books. My existence is bound by law—observe, never interfere. And until you, I obeyed.”

And the rosiness in my cheeks that I hadn’t seen in years was finally back. 'Is that… me?' I gasped under my breath. It was. The door suddenly swung open, and a familiar figure walked in. He was tall, with a sharp jawline and jet-black hair, with eyes I recognized from the forest floor. The same eyes that had looked down at me with a look of both frustration and curiosity, while I lay in the dirt with a vial in my hand. I kept my voice very steady. "Who are you?" "Jasper," he answered matter-of-factly. "Beta of the Blackthorne pack."

"Oh my gods, Juliet is Alpha Orton's mate?" Whispers erupted through the crowd. The summit host rushed to the stage and grabbed a microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen," his voice boomed through the speakers, "allow me to formally introduce Alpha Orton Blackthorne of the New Moon pack, the primary investor in the Blackthorne Biological Institute and Chairman of the Continental Tech Alliance." "And his Luna, the esteemed Dr. Juliet Blackthorne, the continent's leading expert in supernatural botany and the chief editor of the Journal of Lycanthropic Gene Therapy."

She has not responded to a single message of mine telling her how I miss her already, and it’s well over a day since I left. I could barely focus with Alpha Blackthorn but thankfully, all negotiations were handled over virtual meetings and this arrangement was purely a formality. He welcomed us into his home and has been a good host, as good a host as you’d expect an old geyser stuck in his ways to be. His two sons didn't sit in on our meeting, but his daughter did, Wendy Blackthorn appears to be his pride and joy. For conspiracy, for deliberate deception of the Alpha, for the calculated manipulation of pack structures for personal gain, I place you under arrest pending trial." She looks at me when I say her name. Really looks. And asks the question she asks without performance, without strategy, without anything except the genuine, hollow confusion of someone trying to understand what any of it was for. "Did it matter? Any of it at all?"

I can’t blame them for trying to protect their family as that’s what I wanted for Leila; however, it was their son who had done this to her and she was supposed to be their family too. “They’ve started a manhunt for Dan.” Susie said with a voice filled with fear. “Good, hopefully they will find him.” I spat the words out. “He’s not in his right mind, please Nick.” Susie begged. I raised my hand, “You may call me Mr. Thorn. If the police are searching for your son, then they have good reason to. If they find him, I hope he gets everything he deserves for what he has done to Leila.”

Blake snapped at James. James took a step back. Glanced at Selene and then to Blake. "My apologies," he said as he vowed his head a bit. He offered his hand for Blake to shake. "My name is James, I am the new alpha to the Blood Moon Pack." He said, Blake glanced at him. He clenched his jaw tighter, his eyes going darker, his hands folded before his chest, "That didn't answer my question.... why are you bothering my wife?" He asked trying to maintain himself from launching at James.

Inside smelled like stale beer, desperation, and Rhys Caldwell. He sat at a long table covered in maps and guns, back to us, barking orders at three lieutenants. Lisa’s voice crackled over a speaker phone, shrill and panicked. “They’re coming, Uncle Rhys! Blackthorn is—” I shifted back to human, naked and furious, and stepped into the light. “Looking for me?” Rhys spun, eyes widening. He was older than Damien’s father, built like a tank gone to seed, gray beard, scars across his knuckles.
