I watch the way she holds the delicate stem of her glass, the way her fingers glide over the smooth surface as she raises it to her lips. The way her lips part slightly as she licks away the taste. A muscle ticks in my jaw. My grip tightens around the glass, and I force myself to take a slow sip of wine, hoping the burn will distract me but it doesn't. I should be thinking about dinner, not about how easily I could lift her onto this table and have her for dinner instead. I’m so fucking screwed. “Xavier, my boy,” a voice calls out from across the rooftop, interrupting my thoughts.

The climate in the room rises as hours count down to a critical moment of our assignment. Moving around the ill-organized table covered in maps and papers, the team gathers, standing in the midst of the preparations. Jake is looking straight at me, and although it is only for a few seconds, I can discern a shyness that does not often show itself. “How do you even manage it, Zea?” Jake’s voice is soft, his face intense. Chapter 31 **Dillon’s POV ** My jaw aches from the hit I took in combat class. It was an unexpected strike from a first-year, who looked like he barely knew how to throw a punch. He must have had stone fists, or a super strength gift awakening, because I’m pretty sure he broke my jaw. It was embarrassing as hell, but my fault, really. I shouldn’t have been distracted, but I can’t stop thinking about Harper. Something’s off. She looked shaken when we found her this morning, pale and wide-eyed, like she’d seen a ghost.

I kept my voice low, but my heart was pounding. Sarah’s grin spread. "That’s my girl. Sabotage his big meeting, leak some secret files, make him sweat." Secret files? Wait, didn’t Ethan have some weird document for Jace that looked important? Damn, what if… Before I could think it through, Miles voice snapped me back to reality. "Alright sons and daughters of mother parker, let the game begin." He pulled open a champagne, as his friends cheered. "We should play thirty minutes in the closet." A pink haired girl seated on Jace lap yelled. Why was she even on his laps, her arms trailing down his chest, I never got to do that. Wait... seriously?
