I was now entirely at Jonah’s mercy. Jonah's face underwent a startling transformation. Fur sprouted along his cheeks and extended down his chin, while his teeth elongated, pushing through his gums and drooling with a grotesque slaver. His muscles bulged and expanded, causing his shirt to rip apart and fall to the ground. A menacing growl echoed through the room, reverberating off the walls. His eyes, a clear, icy blue, glared at me with a terrifying intensity. Overwhelmed by a rush of emotions, I realized I’d had different expectations of him. Jonah’s anger was palpable.

He shook his head. “No.” “I’ll decide later.” Elias nodded. “Later is allowed.” The deeper Anna’s phrase had traveled far. Only six voluntary Jonah nodes remained. Origin Jonah’s face became even more singular. He looked older. Tired. Less godlike. More human. That somehow made him worse. Because now there was nowhere for his choices to hide.

I had finished reading and was prepared…somewhat. The car was more luxurious than the one I had ridden previously. The same man was on the driver’s seat again. There was another man whose name was James. He was probably a gamma. I let out a small sign as I decided to look at the file, just to occupy myself. Today, I was woken up by Clarissa, the file still in my hand and she had been worried that I would suffer pain in my neck because of how I had fallen asleep. The radio silence from Isaac felt odd but welcoming. I don’t think I could have tolerated his presence after that little incident.

He waved, pulling up to the shore. “You folks okay?” he called, stepping out to the sand. “The name’s Jon. Saw your crash on the news, didn’t expect to meet survivors out here.” Adam shook his hand, relief flooding his face. “Thank goodness! We’re alive, barely. I’m Adam, this is Kara and Thea.” Jon’s eyes flicked over us, lingering a bit too long. “Lucky find. Come aboard, we’ve got food, water, a radio to call for help.”

The old man grunted. "I'm Lindon." The 20 year old tried to purr out seductively and Timothy growled low at him, which made him look down. "I'm Von." The knuckle cracker grunted out with a slightly angry tone. "Good, okay, now first let me ask you Argus, why did you get a breeder?" "Wanted kids." "But you don't see those kids anymore." "No, I have a mate now and she is pregnant with my child."

Also, with no one else to talk to about this part of my life, I’m willing to get this off my chest. “Do you know the Immortal, Cian?” I ask. “The Sin, Greed?” Noah takes a long, lingering pause that leaves me wondering in this moment whether I asked a question that has offended him. “I know of him.” “Turns out him and I are mates. Odd, but there’s no arguing it. The touch and everything,” I admit. It feels good to say it aloud, for someone else to hear it. It makes it real, in a relieving way. I’m still struggling to accept that it is real.

Gio smiled even bigger. Noah had told Gio about Roni getting off the pill and that he might be a dad soon. This was no surprise. As much as Noah, who was an orphan, had always put up a front about not caring that he had no family and that his friends were his family, Gio knew having a family of his own was huge for him. Noah had been almost giddy when he told Gio about it. As young as Noah was, Gio had no doubt he was mature enough and could more than handle fatherhood.
