The doctor hesitated, glancing at his notes before responding. But before he could say anything, the door to the room was pushed open and Jayven walked in.
"We've signed the discharge papers," he told the doctor, his voice firm. The doctor nodded, his expression professional, before turning to leave. "I'll go finalize everything," he said, before exiting the room.
As the door closed behind the doctor, Jayven turned to me, his eyes searching. I could see the questions in his gaze, the desire to understand what was going on. I felt the same way, unsure of how we'd ended up here, or what the future held.
