CHAPTER 4: HIS MARK ON MY NECK

REAH'S POV 

I stared at the cold back of the man who left after his heartless words to me, and a bitter smile formed on my face. 

I looked at the red stain on the bed. My eyes narrowed, and I quickly suppressed the ache in my heart. 

It was just a one-night stand anyway, and I shouldn't expect more from it, but why was my heart aching so much?

I wiped the tears that rolled down my cheeks and sucked in a deep breath, deciding to forget it all. 

Like he said, everything that happened between us should be kept a secret, and with our social standing, it was obvious I would never see him again in this life. Not even when I was just a human, and I already left my university where I could see him occasionally. 

I dragged my weak body to the bathroom where I had a nice bath, after which I tried drying myself up. I was sad, so sad that I felt the urge to cry, but breaking down at that moment wasn't the right thing to do. I was vulnerable, but breaking down shouldn't be my next option. 

I was drying my hair when my hand mistakenly touched my neck, and my body shook involuntarily. I touched my neck again, and a sharp pain ran through my body. 'What's that?' 

I ran to the mirror to see what it was only to see something like a wolf tattoo on my neck, and I frowned. "What the heck is this?" I was confused. 

I tried touching it again, but this time around, there was no pain, no feeling at all, but the tattoo was still there. 

I frowned and shrugged. 'Maybe it's love bite?' I knew very well that Werewolves were different from us humans, so this might also be their way of making love with humans. 

I left the hotel after collecting my first pay, and I made up my mind to never return. Who knew what would happen to me next? Maybe they would send me to another man's room, drug me, and the same thing would happen, and he would walk out after paying me again?

I wasn't going to sell my body even if I was poor...

Getting home, I calculated the money he gave to me, and my eyes widened. Not wasting time, I quickly ran to the hospital, where I paid my mum's hospital bill before going to meet the doctor who was in charge of treating her. 

"Doctor, Good morning," I said with a forced smile on my face. 

The doctor stood up and smiled back. He was a man in his late 20s, and a vibrant smile was on his face. "Reah, you're here." He seemed happier this morning. 

"I was just about to give you a call." He said excitedly, and I got curious. 

"Any good news?" I asked,

"A big good news, Reah. Your mother is awake." The doctor's soft voice entered my ears.

I froze. My eyes widened, and my heart thumped.  "Doctor Frank, are you pulling a prank on me?" That would be cruel___

After everything that happened to me today, pranking me with something like that would be too cruel.

Doctor Frank shook his head. "No, I'm serious, Reah. You can go see her." He said, and my eyes widened. 

I covered my mouth, stood up, and ran toward the door, I looked at the doctor again to check if he was joking, but he looked damn serious. This would be real, right?

I opened the door and ran to my mother's ward. I had no money for a VIP room, so she was among other old women in a room downstairs. My heart was racing, and my mind was in chaos... I had so many things to say to my mother and so many things to hear from her. 

I got to the entrance of the room and stopped, I needed to calm myself first. My body was shaking so hard that I feared I might lose control if I saw her at the moment. I breathed in and out quickly while pressing a hand on my chest. 

A few seconds later, I opened the door and entered. My eyes searched the numerous beds in the room and caught my mother with her eyes closed around the middle of the room. 

My lips quivered, and my legs shook involuntarily. I held the door to support myself as I tried to compose myself again and walked toward her. "Mum," I called gently as I held her hand and looked at her face. "Mum..." I called again, my voice soft and weak, but there was no response. 

I sat gently on the seat beside her and looked deeply. "Mum..." I called for the third time, my fingers trembling. 

Her brows twitched, and she turned her head to my side. She opened her eyes slightly and looked at my face. "Re... ah?" She called softly as if she wasn't sure she was seeing right. 

Tears rolled down my eyes, and my heart ached while it also felt relieved at the same time. Finally... There was someone I could truly relate with. Life wasn't too lonely anymore ~

I nodded roughly. "Mum," I called as more tears rolled down my eyes. 

A tear rolled down her face, and I tried to wipe it, but I couldn't afford to leave my mother's hand. I never could have imagined that a day would come when I would be able to hold her again and talk to her like this again. 

This feeling___ I really hope it won't be a dream...

My mother suddenly froze, and her eyes changed. She grabbed my hand and glared at me, her weak eyes showing immense fear. "Reah, you have to run away. You have to escape. Run, Reah. You can't stay here. You will be killed," She flinched as if she wanted to hide from something. "Killed, Reah. You will die!" She cried out, and the next moment, her body lost all strength as she collapsed in bed.
