He knew what I was going through. This was when I started writing my first novel. It was more of writing the memory I shared with him. I kept a journal so it was more like making a summary of it. I created one that I never published. It was about my mom and me. I gave up waiting after I saw a girl almost dying on the beach. She went swimming and she almost drowned. It made me realize that life is too short. I had to follow my dreams and that was exactly what I did. I sold everything I have and moved to New York after I got another offer for a scholarship. I thought: this is what it looks like. Not the gala. Not the midnight apartment. Not the dark and Prague and it worked. This. Six AM and coffee on my side of the table and work to do and him across from me and Isabelle smiling at her laptop and the city outside the windows doing what it always did. This was what it looked like. I picked up my pen. Went back to work. End of Chapter Fourteen.

Meanwhile, in another room, Sonia Sinclair sat staring at her burned hand. Pain flickered in her eyes. She whispered softly—

"You're a terrible liar." "There's nothing to lie about." "Uh-huh. Then why are you blushing?" "I'm not—" I pressed my hands to my cheeks, which were indeed warm. "It's hot in here." "Sure it is." Jules leaned forward conspiratorially. "Come on, give me something. I'm living vicariously through you. You're in a literal forbidden romance setup! Do you know how many romance novels start exactly like this?" "This is not a romance novel. This is my actual life. And it's complicated and weird and—"

My publisher announced. "Give me that." Amara Keener. An exquisitely stunning woman. Everything about her is so perfect, and I can see myself spending longer time with her. I have to make her mine, even for a while. Because I want my next novel to be the best novel I have ever written. She will be the best protagonist in literary history. Five-hundred pages of filth turned into a weapon. The perfect Poetic justice for chasing me through the city like a deranged bloodhound. My heart hammered so hard I almost laughed. Wasn’t this the part where heroines in books pulled some badass move? Yeah, well—I was no mafia queen. I was Nova, whose emergency plan consisted of “call 911 and maybe throw stationery.” “Why are you following me?!” Her lips curled. “Why do you think?” The way she said it made my stomach flip. If only she knew how chaotic and filthy my thought process was. I’m sure she wouldn’t have asked what I was thinking at any given time.

Ivana cocked her head to the side. "Remember I promised to fess up everything, I think it's time, Ivana, I know it's hard to believe what I'm going to say but please be patient, I'll explain everything to you. The truth is this world is the world I created, in short, we're inside my novel," She confessed. A burst of laughter tore the silence in the room, "Nice one," Ivana laughed out aloud. "I know it's hard to believe but it's true," Arielle let out a nervous laugh.
