In the room was the burning fire in the fireplace and the shelves were filled with books. Solveig’s song was playing romantically. Silje asked, “You have a lot of mystery books. Did you read Karin Fossum’s newest novel?”

I go to pull my hand back, but Winter keeps hold of it, turning the back of my hand to the sky. “Would you –“ he asks as Katie practically explodes besides me. “Yes, she would love to. You can pick her up tomorrow,” she gushes before I can get a word in edgeways. I’m about to give her a look until Winter raises his hand to those soft pink lips and places a quick kiss on my hand.
