She smiled atop her nest of bones, her pet still huddled between her hiked-up legs.
“Keep away,” Katie warned him, voice shaky. “Take the dog, and get back. Please. Keep away from here.” She blinked tears from her eyes, her hair bristling.
They retreated, even as the air around Katie began to crackle, little sparks of static electricity dancing between her fingers. She trembled uncontrollably.
Seeing this, the lurid smile fell apart on Glee’s face.
“I told you,” said Katie, “to stop it . . . ”
