I walked over to the window, my bare feet silent on the rug, and gripped the heavy curtains. With a single motion, I pulled them apart. The morning sun rushed in, hitting me with a sudden, blinding heat that made me squint. I didn't turn away, though. I stood there, letting the light wash over me, feeling it sink into my skin.
