The Wolf's Game
The word falls from his mouth like a vow carved in stone, causing my heart pounds violently.
“You would give up your life?” Nyxara presses. “Your freedom? Your future?”
“Yes,” he repeats, voice raw. “If it means she lives.”
Nyxara rises slowly.
“There is a way,” she says. “I can anchor her soul to this place. Preserve her. Protect her.”
Hope slams into Kael’s face like sunlight breaking through storm clouds.
“But,” she adds, “you must take her place.”
My blood turns to ice.
“You will become the constant,” Nyxara continues. “The keeper. The one who watches as others enter and fail and die. You will remain here, bound to the Game, until someone worthy breaks it.”
