It felt like the beginning of something new. Keith was always a bit of a mystery, a man of strict rules and intense purpose. He wasn’t known to be gentle or kind, yet with me, he softened, breaking rules he’d sworn by. Sometimes, I’d catch a glimpse of the hardened Alpha in him—a smile would flicker for me, but when he turned to someone else, his face would close, his eyes becoming cold and unreadable. It was like he lived in two worlds, one that was for everyone else and one that he reserved only for me.

I walked over, pulling it open, and there stood a soldier. “Luna. Alpha. I think there’s something you need to see.” . The soldier led us to the pack’s square, where many members had already gathered. They parted like the Red Sea for Alexander to walk through, and then… I saw it. Keith's body hung from one of the poles. “How did this happen?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “He did this to himself, Luna. Took his own life.” The soldier’s words hit me like a blow, and I couldn’t breathe. My throat felt like it was closing in.

I say, in shock. “We were losing too many trackers to the rogues,” Kane says, looking down at his feet. “So what, you felt sending your Alpha was the smart thing to do?” I ask, aghast. “That is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard.” Alpha Wade growls angrily as he steps into my personal space, glaring daggers at me. “I will never ask my people to walk into a situation that may lead to their death if I am capable of doing it and have a higher chance of survival.” I step into him, chest to chest, nose to nose.

I said and left the stanching dungeon where I don’t wish to come. “Alpha, you won’t ever kill a baby then why did you lie?” Keith asked. “War isn’t won only by courage or your strength, mind games are equally important. Just wait and watch how he will open his mouth within an hour. Just keep a close eye on him.” I replied to his question as we walked back to the pack house. “Then what are you going to do with a rogue’s baby? He can’t be raised at our land. They are a curse and the effect of their genes won’t disappear even if we give them good morals.” Keith said with disgust and I totally agree with him.

The men again laughed as they encouraged their Alpha. “This pretty piece of ass will show you just what a ‘she-wolf’ is capable of. Be ready for when the sun rises you will be apologising at my feet. The only thing you’ll have to worry about is whether or not you’ll have any teeth left.” Without giving Tye the chance to respond we upped at left. I don’t know where Lilith found the courage to speak like that, but I couldn’t have been any prouder.

The pack members each pledged again to their Alpha and now their Luna. Then it was eating, drinking, and dancing for hours. Asia stayed close to Thomas, but stepped back when he spoke to Penny. Asia could see the little pup was honest, as the day is long. She readily answered her Alpha’s questions, and Asia watched his concern grow as they spoke. Asia needed to know what was being said. She stepped closer. “So the humans will somehow find out about us? Now you’re sure we aren’t fighting them, are we?” “You high-five a big thick human with a big black gun all dress in greens and browns.”

One infected lunged straight at the massive black wolf with a guttural scream. Big mistake. Kael caught the creature midair. The crunch of bone echoed sickeningly through the street as his jaws snapped shut around its throat before he hurled the body into a nearby wall hard enough to crack concrete. Another infected immediately jumped onto his back. Then another. Nova’s eyes widened. “Oh shit—” Kael exploded into violence. The Alpha twisted savagely, slamming one infected beneath his massive body before tearing another off his shoulders with brutal force. Black fur bristled while deep snarls ripped from his chest

Serena. Kael stood over the council table as the last messenger collapsed to one knee, blood soaking through his tunic. The Alpha’s hands were clenched so tightly his claws bit into his palms, but he did not feel the pain. Pain was familiar. This was something else. This was the consequence. “She’s done hiding,” Kael said quietly. No one argued.

The words leave my lips before I even consciously think them. "What? Adrian, no!" Jake steps forward from the doorway, his face etched with horror. "You’re the Alpha of this pack! You can’t sacrifice yourself for someone who’s not your mate. If you die, the pack falls into chaos, especially with the rogues at the gate. You can't be this reckless!"

I can hide you! I drag him with me, and while he keeps growling, he doesn’t try to pull away from me. However, as I take him inside the animal shelter, I know his pursuers aren’t idiots. If they’re nonhuman, they’ll know exactly where he went. I shove the Alpha behind the counter, where he slumps to the paneled floor, his breathing harsh. Then, I grabbed two of the new scalpels that just arrived this morning. Ricky hasn’t had the chance to put them away yet.
