In the grand dining room, she found Kade—shirt untucked, hair wild, munching happily on a croissant as if they weren’t living in the middle of a supernatural soap opera.
“Sleeping Beauty awakens,” he said, raising his glass of orange juice in salute.
Elaina blinked. “You’re… here?”
“Of course. This is my second home,” Kade said cheerfully, patting the chair beside him. “Come on, sit. I saved you the last croissant. And by saved, I mean I was guilted into it by Lucien.”
She sat down slowly. “So, you’re… Lucien’s assistant?”
“Well,” he said between chews, “assistant, spy, chaos coordinator, emotional support human—it depends on the day.”
