"Manang, what time does Luther get home?" I inquired, peering outside the mansion. It's getting dark, but none of them have returned home. "That depends on the young master; he comes home at different times, sometimes early, sometimes late. Oh, what date is today?" Manang inquired, suddenly recalling something. She checked her phone to confirm something. " Today is the tenth of the month, and I'm sure he'll be late. " "Why?" I inquired, perplexed as to why the company would stay open so late. "He always comes home late on the tenth of the month, telling us not to cook."

Four months before the Ghost Festival. Start of the semester. Her watch says 10:12. It’s nice how some people can be so late but still not have the heart to at least text the time they plan to arrive. Sarcasm. That’s the only thing she’s good at. She took out her phone to check her messages but when she did not see any notification, she clicked on a moba game instead. She was stunned and being attacked when she heard a panting voice.

Victoria realized she was late on a Tuesday. Not late for a meeting—she was never late for meetings. Late in the way that women noticed after years of cycling like clockwork. She stood in the bathroom of the institute, staring at the calendar on her phone, doing the math in her head. Twelve days. She was twelve days late. It was probably nothing. Stress. Perimenopause. The lingering effects of the poison, even though the doctors had assured her there would be none. There were a hundred explanations that didn't involve the word pregnant.

Karl's face reddened, and he cleared his throat again. "Listen, while you're alone and appear to be in a good mood, there's something I need to tell you," Karl said slowly. Renz frowned, unsure of what negative news Karl could possibly bring. In an act of preparation, Renz quickly finished his brandy. "What is it?" he asked. Karl paced for several moments, and when he looked at Renz, he appeared fearful. "Lena's monthly is late. She told me she'd missed it while in München. I thought it was likely a result of her stress and illness. But she's overdue now...so it appears she's missed another," Karl said.

While Kole answered his phone. "Hel-" before he could finish his word, the person on the other line starts to nag him. "Hey! patients are waiting, where are you?!" Yara, his assistant, was so furious. She's been waiting for an hour now and Kole should arrive thirty minutes before the session starts. He's late for the second time. "Did you forget? today is Tuesday and we open early on Tuesday!" Yara continued to nag.

Cindy asked as she turned to look at Maddie while tucking her brown hair behind her ears. Maddie looked at Cindy, her face falling as she leaned closer to her friend. Her grey eyes darting towards Gemma who was now being served and then back to their table. “I’m not...well at least not just now” “Maddie!” Cindy hissed quietly “You can’t not tell her” “I said not just now” Maddie whispered back “There not back for at least another month or so. I’ll tell her nearer the time” “Yeah and you said the same thing two months ago. They’re back almost 5 months early because of how well they did. Don’t you think you should at least give her time to prepare?”

A part of me still believed it wasn't true. Unfortunately though when the full moon came on Thursday there was no period, no cramping, no bloating, nothing. I wasn't overly worried though because I knew I was slightly stressed and sometimes stress caused it to be late. Friday came and still nothing. I was beginning to think Vanessa might be right. There was still a chance it was just my stress though. Between finals next week, telling my dad next week that I had been seeing someone for the past month or so
