She did wear glasses, but always had the best frames, the ones that enhanced her fox-like face more than detracting from it. 'I never read anything by her.' I remarked. 'She's a bit like Kelly Link, or Caitlin R Kiernan.' Lacey answered, turning back to look at me. 'Just as weird, but not quite as good.' Julia said, from where she was sitting beside me. Julia was the punk/artsy friend, and, unlike Lacey, she looked exactly like you'd expect. Right down to the dyed pixie cut. 'I never read them either.' I admitted. Though I did read some Caitlin Kiernan later on, something about messed up kids in Alabama and angels and spider creatures. It was good, but Julia was right, it was weird as hell.

But then my happiness that she’s okay dims because it’s clear Bennett doesn’t want me here, even if Mack does. “That’s good,” I murmur as I try to smile through my hurt at yet another rejection. “Everything is going to work out, Aerin,” Mack says, proving once again his ability to know me better than anyone ever has. Pointing to her next note, she informs, “Books state men have anxiety about ejaculating on demand, so some practice will help.” I pull out my iPhone, open my Kindle App, scroll a few times, find the book I want, then hand my phone to Kennedy. “Here, you read this and bye-bye any anxiety Jackson might have.” Kennedy squeals as my cell phone plummets to the carpet. Jackson grabs up my phone to see what I shared. “Seriously?” He asks me. “You read this smut?” I offended him with my suggestion, but soon the hilarity seeps upon his face.

All these were weird, because I loved reading, more than anything else. The knock on my door wasn’t even loud enough to pass for a knock, just two short taps before it swung open anyway. Only one person moved like that in my life, the kind who didn’t ask permission because he already assumed he’d get a yes. Maverick leaned against the frame, casual as ever, his black shirt hugging his shoulders and chain glinting against his throat. His smile curled lazy. “Really?” he drawled, eyes flicking to my book. “It’s Friday night, and you’re reading?”

He cocks his eyebrow at me, “Can we move on?” I was hoping secretly that we wouldn’t get to this, but now that I’m on my final point there’s no turning back. “One last thing.” I mutter, hoping I'm not blushing, “You’re going to introduce me to Nicco Moretti.” “I’m sorry?” Clearly whatever he thought he’d hear it wasn’t that. “Nicco Moretti. The famous writer. I’ve been in love with The Owl Hunter series since I was 20, and you’re going to get me to meet him.”

I didn’t have any accomplishments, certainly nothing I’d done to be proud of anyhow. “So what do you like to do,” Ryan asked. “I uhm … I don’t do much. I like to read,” I said, wanting to slap myself. Why couldn’t I be more outgoing? “That’s cool. I bet you like Heather Killian’s books huh? That’s what my sister is all into,” Ryan said, laughing. I grinned like an idiot. She was the most well known author of werewolf romance stories. I giggled. “Isn’t that the sweetest sound you’ve ever heard,” Ryan said.

"You tickle them?" I nodded. "Whenever possible." "Tickle what? Do we need to leave?" Kiema asked as she leaned back. A look of eww on her face. "The keyboard keys. Tickle the keys." I giggle-snorted. "I'm a gamer and...finder." Kiema leaned down towards me, whispered, "Finder of what?" I felt my mouth twitch as I turned to answer. "Rare and collectible paraphernalia." Xander snorted. Taryk's brown eyes heated. "Seriously, keep thinking about clandestine ops. Fucking natural, sweetness."
