By the time I was done, I went back to check on Halle. I saw an empty room. She still hadn’t returned. I dragged a hand through my hair in frustration. [ Where are you? We are about to leave.] I sent her another text. Her response came quickly. [ You’ll see me soon.] Where the fuck was she? It had been over an hour since she said she was out for a run. Why wasn’t she back yet? My wolf was pacing inside me, restless and agitated. Something about her words didn’t sit right with me. I couldn’t help but feel like she was lying to me.

It was still a bit dark and I walked around the pack house, taking in a proper view for the first time, it was huge and just perfect for the size of our pack. I had to take a look around the surrounding trees and search for a suitable undergrowth where I would hide my clothes. I had barely walked a good distance from the pack house when out of nowhere, a wolf came running towards me at full speed. It seemed ferocious and unforgiving. I screamed my lungs out in fear just as it pounced on me………

They sniffed the air, picking up on the distinctive scent of the Quercia and set off behind the buildings and into the nearby small stretches of land still covered in trees, away from human eyes. Feeling the ground beneath him vibrate with the hundreds of varying sources cleared his mind; he homed in on the unmistakable movements of a wolf and sped up. A few yards ahead he spotted the pale, mixed coloring of a pack member and signaled to Gil to get around him. The underling caught wind of them and attempted to throw them off by taking to the alleys, but Gil arrived to cut off the path. Victor dove in on him from behind, aiming for the shoulder with a shallow bite.

The wolves surrounded him, ready to take his life as they were commanded not to leave any survivors except the Alpha's daughter. Then, two wolves burst from the shadows and suddenly started attacking the rogues. One was a huge black wolf, twice the size of all the other wolves, and the other was a brown wolf. The huge black wolf’s eyes gleamed red, symbolizing that he was an Alpha, but that wasn't what made the rogues fear him—the mark on the wolf's face made them recognize him as Alpha Kayden and without waiting, they all took to their heels.

He paused, his eyes scanning my face for any sign of understanding. “I couldn't help but laugh, I guess either I'm hearing things or I'm not the only crazy one in the room.” Zayn stepped closer, his movements deliberate and careful, as if I might bolt at any moment. “You’re a wolf,” he said, his voice steady. “You always have been. You just didn’t know it yet.” I burst out in laughter once again, sharp and bitter, verging on hysteria. “You’re insane. This is insane.”

The dark color in the wolf’s eyes was replaced with bright amber color, the moon's reflection glistened in his orbs. Another wolf ran to meet up with it and other wolves, I could identify one of them as Chloe’s wolf. It immediately dawned on me that the huge black wolf was Alpha Keegan’s wolf. A gray wolf barked orders then a few of the wolves took their leave. The presence of many wolves around me made me scared and my fast heartbeat still hadn’t recovered from the rogue chasing me. Alpha Keegan's wolf left then he returned in his human form a gray sweatpant, frowning really hard at me.

I take a deep breath in, feeling my heartrate slow as I exhale. “Cassidy’s wolf’s name is Nina. Now Nina is a special kind of wolf. Some of you are already aware of Cassidy and Nina, some of you are aware of our history and the mythology surrounding it.” The crowd starts to chatter, theorising what Alpha is talking about. He holds his hand up and they fall silent. “Nina is an Elemental wolf.”
