I finally said vaguely. “I see.” Harrison nodded. “That’s why I prefer to live alone. Ginger snap?” He held out a plate of ginger snap cookies that I hadn’t even seen him prepare. I took one and munched on it, watching while he stood and disappeared into the hallway. “I take it you came about the Luna’s Bane,” he called. “Yeah.” I heard some shuffling of books. Harrison cursed a few times. Then, he returned with a stack of journals in his hands. He plopped them down in front of me, sending a plume of dust flying up into my face.

The fact that we had no idea what we were looking for made things harder than they already were. In his room, I found endless books about self-care, self-love, emotional health, and healing. This is the strangest thing I found about Hickman since I’d taken an interest in his life. How can a man who owns an overflowed set of inspirational books hurt a kid like Bobby? This just doesn’t make sense.

When my shift ended, I found myself walking toward the corner table where Kael sat, his laptop closed now, a book in his hands. I stopped short when I saw the cover. ‘Knot We Cannot Untie.’ That was the book he was holding. I can't believe that Kael would be reading one of Linda Lively’s books. “You read… this?” I said, the surprise evidently in my voice. Kael looked up, one brow raised. “Why? You think I only read racing magazines and bank statements?” I gave a small laugh. “Chill bro. It’s just… not what I was expecting ”

"And who knows, you might just find my son the perfect match." Nicole raised an eyebrow and shot him a skeptical look but said nothing more, simply shaking her head and Just as Nicole was about to close the door, she turned back to Mr. Harrison with a curious expression. "By the way, boss, what does your son do?" she asked, her voice tinged with interest. Mr. Harrison's smile broadened, and he leaned back in his chair, a look of pride on his face. "He's a writer," he said, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "In fact, he's the author of 'Echoes in the Night.'."

Kim said, "It suits you. Sexy Lexi. Yes. I'm Kim, in case you, ummm, didn't remember. Or something." "Kim and her brother Cole," Lexi said. She remembered the three of them entangled in the sand and beamed. Kim seemed to be thinking about the same thing, then she looked down at Lexi's arms. "That's my book," Kim said. Lexi frowned. "Well, the book I was looking for anyway. Do you have Dr. Muller for Modern German History?" Lexi held up the tome like it was all the evidence she needed. "Fuck," Kim said, "Was there another one on the shelf? The guy at the bookstore said it's out of print."

"What were the documents about?" "Mr. Harrison was...is in cahoots with the big banks. He, and these banks, have been playing everyone who can barely make do with what they have. They loan out money to people only so these people can go into debt and borrow more money again from them when prices go up over time. Harrison Inc. has been involved in this for years; that's why they, along with all those other bankers, were living it good during the recession of 2008. They knew how to play the system. Kayla's POV After closing the door to the study, Harrison turned around. With a deep gaze that pinned me in place, he approached with an aura of authority. "Tell me. What do you really know about The Blue Blood Pack?!" "I... I've only seen some things in a book once..." I cautiously stepped backward, trying to avoid Harrison's penetrating gaze. But the next second, he rushed toward me. Grabbing my chin, he forced me to meet his eyes. "Where is that book, Kayla?"

Harrison put the paper bags on the sofa and tidied up the books on the center table along with other crumpled papers. It wasn’t messy, the surroundings were clean. The interior was modern in style, including the items on display. What Harrison was tidying up were books. I wasn’t sure what kind of books they were, but they weren’t just any books. I walked towards him, picked up a book and looked at it. “I’ll tidy up.” he said hurriedly then took the book I was holding. The book I hold is a book… something about brains. “Wait, are you a doctor?” I asked in surprise.
