My chair scraped lightly against the stone floor as I sat, every movement watched, measured.
Lord Adrien turned toward me, his grin sly, his eyes dragging far too slowly over my figure.
“My lady,” he drawled, his voice thick with amusement. “The King does not usually share his treasures at this table.”
My throat tightened. Heat crawled up my neck.
I felt Kael’s gaze on me, heavy, waiting.
I forced a small smile. “Perhaps he does not see me as a treasure,” I whispered, letting my voice tremble just enough.
Adrien’s grin widened. He leaned closer, his words brushing against me like a caress. “Then he is a fool.”
