I panicked as I wailed and fought against them, but they were stronger than mine. My eyes widened when I saw him going down on his knees, while I laid between his legs. He grabbed strands of my hair and pushed them from my neck, giving me access. He leaned down, and I laid rigid, my heart drove at full speed as he leaned down towards me. I could perceive the sweaty smell coming off him, and it further made my stomach churned. His men grabbed my hands and pinned them down. His fangs elongated as he leaned down towards my neck and sniffed me.

She was too focused on the story to hear Viishaun's footsteps. "Kyaahhhh!" She screamed in spooky, and before she knew it, the book had flown and struck the king's face. She immediately stood up and bowed her head while apologizing. However, Viishaun's attention had averted on a page presented to him as he flipped the book. He raised his eyebrow and read the context as follows, "I want to hear you scream my name as I melt you in my tongue." "What?! Don't give that criticizing look," Scheriziel screamed as she tried to snatch the book, but the king was too tall for her to grab the book as he raised his hand.

The fire sparked, casting fresh light across the chamber. The King moved to the spring, drinking deeply. Then he turned to face us, his golden eyes gleaming. "Rest tonight. Tomorrow, we begin the journey." I looked at the map in my hands, the weight of its promise settling into my bones. The path forward was clear. And the hunt for the Council's hidden fortress had just begun. END OF CHAPTER 27

The screaming is coming from the throne room. The doors are open. Inside, chaos. The King is on the ground. Not moving. Damon's beside him. "Get the healer! Now!" Kieran sees us. "He collapsed. Just fell over mid sentence." I push through the crowd. Get close enough to see. The King's eyes are open but unfocused. His breathing is shallow. Wrong. "Father." Damon's voice cracks. "Stay with me." The healer arrives. Checks the King. His face goes grim.
