The pages were filled with notes about Ruby Wolves, written in Kieran's hand.

I slapped the back of his hand but it was a futile try, he was already shoving a handful of fries in his mouth. "I founfsometh," he said, earning a disgusted look from me. "Chew your food first." Ignoring my remark, he took out his infamous velvet covered orange colored notebook with a tiny lock that opened with a 3-numbered pass code. "I found something new."

Wolf. I felt like my brain was buffering. We reached my locker, and I spun the lock absentmindedly. Rue leaned against the one next to mine, humming and still ranting about spicy noodles. The moment the door swung open, a soft thud hit the metal floor. I looked down. My notebook. Completely drenched in black ink. The pages were sticking together like wet paper in the rain, the whole thing ruined. “What the—?” I crouched and picked it up. My fingers instantly became smudged with ink.

Anita asked, referring to her notebook. Kirsten slid her notebook inside her backpack slowly. Anita merely gazed at it, wondering if it was what her cousin was writing. Kirsten eventually tucked her notebook into her bag. "It's nothing," Kirsten explained. "Yeah, just my arithmetic notes," she clarified. Anita gave her a smug expression. "Okay," she said and she sat beside her. "How come you're alone?" Anita asked. She just thought that Samuel and Kirsten were together since they were both free at the time. So, she is surprised at why she is alone. Kirsten didn't respond straight away. She averted her gaze and was deafeningly silent. Anita fixed her attention on her cousin's face.

I filed the fragrance away in my memory as something wonderful. “Good morning,” a familiar voice interrupted my thoughts. Walking up the path was Kathryn in exercise clothes heading to the gym for a quick workout before the meeting. I wondered just how walk-of-shame-y I looked wearing a wet dress and missing my left shoe.

I take a slow sip of my water and return my attention to the computer. “Yes, ma’am,” Bonnie finally says before exiting. The door closes. Diana turns to me but says nothing. After a minute, I look up. “You’re staring, darling.” “Are you going to tell me how to arrange this,” she asks coolly, lifting the files, “or should I go back to my book?” I lean back in my chair, studying her. “Are you jealous, Diana?” “Of your secretary?” Her tone is calm, but there’s disappointment beneath it—controlled, deliberate. “No.”
