Dug through it like she was searching for treasure— Then pulled something out and dropped it on the bed in front of me. A notebook. It wasn’t a normal notebook. This one had glitter. And hearts. And—was that a lipstick kiss mark on the cover? I stared at it. Slowly. “…What is that?” I asked. Chloe gasped like I had just insulted her entire bloodline.

It’s sure got enough confessions to make. Like… how long I’ve wanted this. How many nights I’ve laid awake in my cramped little bed, fingers moving busily inside my pajamas as I squeeze my eyes shut and picture Kyle moving above me. I gently take it out, my hands clammy with sweat. I open it and flip through a few pages. The writings are undoubtedly Kai’s. My gaze tracks his scribblings. Some words are underlined while others are circled. Some are crossed out. There are names, unfamiliar, but underlined several times. There are words that don’t make sense to me. My head spins when my eyes fall on the legible sentence and read it.

He started off with the day's lesson as usual. She saw Kendra at the corner of her eyes, smirking at her. Conniving with her pals, Miley and Shay. Maybe they are already planning her day's torture. She sighed and tried to focus on Mr. Andersen but her mind is nonetheless, elsewhere. A classmate from her back nudged her. It was Kirk. "Mr. Andersen is calling you to read…" he whispered. She blinked and tried to process his words . "He's calling you… faster! " he added and tapped her back. She scrambled to her feet leading to her books to fall to the floor.

KIRA’S POV I didn’t take the notebook back from Anton. I didn't need to, the image on it was already clearly burned into my head...however, I wasn't satisfied. For a moment, I just stood there, staring at the closed cover like it might open itself and show me something worse... something more. My heart was beating too fast. It was as if it was going to fall out through my mouth. My palms were damp...I wiped it on my clothes to no avail, it got even more damp as I tried.

The private study room inside Blackthorne Heights library remained nearly empty around midnight except for us. Rain tapped softly against the tall gothic windows while dim lights cast shadows across the room. Kaizen finally looked up from his chair. “You get wrinkles when you’re angry.” “I’m nineteen.” “Still tragic.” I exhaled sharply through my nose. Jeez…..he was so exhausting. Then unexpectedly Kaizen reached across the table and pulled my notebook closer. His eyes scanned my handwritten notes quietly, the teasing expression disappeared completely. “You made these for me? I frowned. “That’s usually how tutoring works.”
