CHAPTER 30: The Snake Inside Vincenzo’s Pov I just stood there after the kiss. It was so stupid. I kissed her in that dark hallway. I shouldn't have done that. I'm the Don, i don’t just kiss people whenever I feel like it. I’m the boss of everything but she was right there, and she looked so mad at me for showing her off at the party. I liked that she was mad. She didn’t look scared at all. She just looked angry. I pulled away and left fast before I did anything else totally dumb.

“Definitely.” They sat like that for a long moment, the sound of the rain a soft rhythm around them. Then Nathan tilted her chin up. “Are you going to keep crying, or can I finally kiss my wife properly?” Ericka blinked up at him, then smiled. “What makes you think I’d say yes?” He smirked. “Because you’re already leaning forward.” And she was. Their lips met—softly, slowly—like a promise sealed under the rhythm of the rain.

“We can check your accounts now. We need to act fast.” I feel things are happening too fast, or Susan is fast-paced but I don't want to seem like I wasn't ready to receive her help, so I cling to her optimism that feels like holding a thin thread. She sets the laptop on the table and nudges it toward me. The familiar glow of the screen lights up the room, too bright, too sharp. I type in my login details, each click of the keyboard echoing louder than it should. My heart pounds as the loading circle spins.

“The kiss.” “Yes.” His gaze locked onto hers, unreadable. “Your goodnight kiss.” Her breath caught, fury and fear warring inside her. “You’re insane.” “Perhaps.” He leaned closer, so close she could feel his breath against her skin. “But you agreed.” Her heart pounded violently, yet she refused to let him see her crumble. Slowly, with trembling defiance, she rose on her toes and pressed the lightest, quickest kiss to his cheek. Barely a brush.

A tiny smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “You are unbelievable.” “So I’ve been told.” I rolled my eyes so hard they almost qualified as cardio. “Give it back.” “What do I get?” “My eternal gratitude.” “Boring.” “My notes?” “I can read those anyway.” “Kai.” “Wren.” “You’re impossible.” “And yet…” He finally placed the notebook into my waiting hand, letting his fingertips brush mine for the briefest second. Barely a touch. Hardly anything. Yet my pulse still skipped.

A burst of laugher was heard on the corner of the room. I shot a glare there and the girls sitting in that area looked away when I had met their gazes. I knew that it was I whom they were laughing about. But I did not mind. I noticed that my classmates went silent after Rogie's little show, but they never point a finger on me. I sighed in relief. At least, they did not cause me trouble. "Sydnee," my seatmate whispered suddenly. I turned to her but I noticed that she was looking at her notebook, skimming through her notes. I cleared my throat. "Yes?"
