I just wanted to get back. The trees started to thin. The path widened. And then, between the branches, I saw light. I could have screamed for joy…..I actually might have. A small, pathetic sound left my mouth and I broke into a run, slippers slapping against the uneven ground, arms out for balance, completely undignified and not caring even slightly. And then I saw him. Kian burst through the front door like he'd been fired out of something. Even from this distance, even in the dim bulb light, I could read every line of his body, the rigid set of his shoulders, the way he turned his head left and right in sharp, desperate movements, his hands curling and uncurling at his sides.

I didn’t wait. I ran. Through the courtyard. Past stunned faces. Past murmuring wolves. And then I saw them. Chase walking. Supporting someone. Someone taller. Stronger. Barely conscious. Kaelric. His shirt was soaked in blood. His skin pale. Too pale. For one terrible heartbeat— I thought I was too late. Chase’s eyes lifted. And I saw something flicker there. Expectation. It's hardly a fair match. Halfway there, I feel a sharp pain in my stomach, and my wolf howls. I stop running and crouch down, it hurts. "What is it, honey?" my mom asks. "K... Kian," I wince. "He's been stabbed," I cry. Mom helps me to my feet, and we continue our run to the border, not stopping despite the burning pain I feel in my stomach. If I feel it this intensely, what must Kian be going through?

"We will leave out the window. I’ll tell someone to find Kiara. You can stay at mine until things are ok, Raihana’s already there." She ran like there was no tomorrow. The wind seemed to favour her as if flowed towards the direction she was running and she didn't feel any discomfort from it. She pushed herself to run faster as soon as she heard loud heavy footsteps following behind her. Tears rolled out of her eyes as she deeply prayed for the almighties for Leonidas to come and save her. Suddenly she was pushed with such a force that she flew and collided with the tree and... . . .
