The moment Zoe’s eyes closed, she was transported to a realm that felt both ethereal and grounding, as if she were standing at the edge of the universe itself. Above her, the sky swirled with shifting constellations, stars glimmering like fragments of an ancient story. Beneath her feet, a reflective surface mirrored the heavens, each step causing ripples of starlight to radiate outward. In the distance, two figures emerged, their presence commanding and radiant. One was cloaked in silvery light, her form exuding a serene, motherly aura. The other was darker, shadowy and fierce, her eyes gleaming like obsidian stars. The Moon Goddess and Nyx.

“Luna…” Her heart jumped. She turned quickly. “Did you hear that?” Kael nodded slowly. “The Whispering Moon,” he said. Luna blinked. “The what?” He looked up at the sky again. Above them, the largest of the twenty moons glowed brighter than the others. Its light shimmered strangely, almost like ripples across water. “That moon,” Kael said, pointing upward, “speaks to those connected to the Veil.” Luna felt a chill crawl down her spine.

Then the clouds came. The second the sun was hiding behind the clouds, the loudest shriek Liam had ever heard in his life erupted from behind him. He turned, but he was too slow. A figure in a black cloak had grabbed him and lifted him a solid foot from the ground. It’s hands were cold, clammy, and strong. Liam struggled to breathe, crying out in pain. He could feel his neck being crushed under the weight of this...creature’s...strength, and he kicked and struggled as hard as he could. Liam could hear the sounds of the townsfolk fleeing, knocking over chairs and each other to get away from the cloaked figure. Liam took a second to look into it’s eyes, determined to see who was attacking him.
