It was… "A circle of roses, bleeding. A silver crown pierced by thorns. A pair of red, slitted eyes above a mouth full of fangs. And in the center— A girl. Barefoot. Pale. Hands outstretched. Eyes wide. Offering." It had spilled out of me in a trance at home. I didn’t remember sketching it. Didn’t even choose the colors. My brush had moved like it remembered something I didn’t. “You sure you’re okay?” Lila asked, her voice softer now. “This isn’t just dark, Bella. It’s… haunting.”

He asks. I nod at Harry, “It is my first time here in LUAHU. I didn’t know I drew this beach before. I swear to God I had no idea. I might have dreamed about this beach years ago and I have forgotten about it. No wonder it feels so familiar being in here. I usually draw things that I see in my dreams when I wake up or when an imagination pops into my head. But…. how did this happen?” Harry looks at me confusedly as he moved to the next image, “America, look at this one because this is much creepier.”

I ask him. He frowns and looks ahead of us. “No lie, it no beautiful.” My eyes widen. “How can you say that?” He looks at me and starts crying again. He places his head on my shoulder and whimpers, “I drew it Luna, but she no like and throw way.”

Of course it was a surprise. I searched my hand bag for my sketch pad and I pulled it out. Walking straight to Aunty Jojo, I showed her the dress I had designed for Laila. I could tell she was impressed, cause she started flipping through the pad with stunned eyes. She brought her phone out and took pictures of the design. Laila was so excited,as well as Tana, but it wasn't the same with my mum. I could tell she was fuming but trying to keep calm because we were in public.

But that wasn’t what he was drawing today. There was a picture of two girls—rendered crudely in crayon, but still identifiable as girls. One of them had short blond hair and the other had long brown braids. Their hands were on their faces and their mouths open in screams. David had drawn these as big black circles. A huge black shadow hovered before them, a shapeless body with red eyes and clearly defined hands. The hands looked like long silver knives. There were many drawings before this one. Lauren wondered how long David had been at it.
