Smiling reassuringly at Celine, Ethan took the empty glass of water, set it down, and then turned in his seat to face Sebastian. “My name is Ethan Sommer. You must be Sebastian.” Dismissing Sebastian, Ethan turned toward Celine, a gentle smile lighting up his eyes. “Better?” Ethan asked.

“Hey, Gal. Long day?” I looked up and smiled politely. It was Ethan; a guy from my Pharmaceutical Calculations class. American, tall, brown hair always falling into his eyes. He had been friendly since the semester started, always offering to share notes or crack small jokes during breaks. Nothing uncomfortable, just casual classmate friendliness. “Yes,” I replied, letting out a breath. “My brain feels roasted.” He laughed and sat down beside me, leaning his elbows on his knees. “Same. Dr. Callahan talks like he’s racing someone.”

I quickly moved toward the lab, my hands shaking slightly as I scanned the room for the samples we needed. “We need to move fast,” I muttered, trying to focus on the task at hand. I was still thinking about it when I ran into Ethan outside the math building after my Calculus class.
