I chose no jewels — just the thin band at my throat, a quiet defiance of the gold he’d once given me. By the time I stepped into the corridor, the castle had fully awakened. Servants bowed. Courtiers murmured behind their hands. The echo of my footsteps followed me down the marble hall, steady and unhurried. I passed a pair of noblewomen near the arches. Their conversation fell silent as I approached. One of them curtsied too deeply, her mouth tight with the effort not to smirk. “Lady Liana,” she said sweetly. “The king waits.” Her tone lingered like a blade.

it's pitch black out here now and im in all black so I know once I have my victim I will be fine in the dark as long as I can keep them quiet. Five hours pass and I can hear the rowdiness of the hotel starting to wind down as people head home. I wait for my chance, seeing someone coming through the garden toward the back gate. I wait, watching as the brunette with the little red dress, high heels and way to much perfume comes straight toward me. when she gets to where I am hiding, I give her a couple of seconds to pass me that's when I strike.

On getting to her room, she noticed that her servant Lily was waiting for her right in front of her door, looking tired. Kazia raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Lily, how long have you been standing here?" Lily bowed on spotting her mistress walking toward her. "Welcome, Miss. I arrived here only after I found out you were back from town. I thought I should wait for you in case you need anything," she replied. Kazia couldn't hide the fact that she was surprised. She wasn't expecting that Lily would be standing guard in front of her, and the thought that she could have been responsible for keeping Lily waiting on her feet for that long didn't exactly make her feel comfortable.

After freshening up, I lay in the bed waiting for Vincent even though my eyes are dropping wanting to get some sleep, but I don't want to sleep yet I wanna see Vincent first. Sighing I get up after deciding I should go to his study to check on him and ask if he had his dinner but not before concealing the finger marks on my face. Pulling my robe closer to my body I walk towards the direction of his study when I passed a maid who looked at me wide eyes. "Are you okay?" I questioned her while nodding her head. "I think you should go back to bed, miss. It's too late already." She says fidgeting with her fingers, looking afraid but afraid of what?.

One had brown skin, black hair that was tied in a bun and even lighter eyes while the other was a brunette with green eyes. "You're finally awake," The brunette said. "My name is Bridgette and I'm your lady in waiting." "I'm known as Annie and I am your lady in waiting as well," the other woman said with a light accent that I wasn't familiar with. "Nice to meet you," I said as I rubbed the sleep off my eyes. "The prince did mention that he would send you in today." "We hope that you aren't too exhausted from last night. There's a lot that has to be done today."

With her wedding approaching, she became the center of attention. Whenever people spoke about me now, they simply shook their heads. “Lady Leanora… What a waste of her title as the Royal City’s finest noble lady.” “Exactly. She’s beautiful, elegant, educated, and skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. However, with a sister like that beside her, what can she offer?” One day, Rosalind cornered me in the study and pressed her hand down on my brush.

The door swung open, and a lady-in-waiting entered the room, her presence an unwelcome interruption. I furrowed my brow, my tone laced with irritation. "What are you doing here?" I demanded, my voice tinged with authority. The lady-in-waiting, seemingly unperturbed by my question, approached with a serene smile gracing her features. She carried a tray adorned with two steaming cups of coffee, an air of familiarity lingering around her movements. "I have come to serve the Queen's coffee, Your Highness," she replied innocently, her voice as smooth as silk.

I quickly took my purse from my bedside table and walked majestically down the stairs, and over to the door, opened it slowly, and stood transfixed on the spot. Right in front of me was a long shiny spotless black limousine, and a handsome man with a perfectly tailored black suit standing beside it. His lips were moving but I was too busy checking him out to listen to whatever he had to say. He smiled patiently and said it again, this time a little bit louder than before. "Miss Richards?" he asked with a brief flicker of the eyelid. "Oh my God, did he just flirt with me?" my senses came back that instant. “composure girl” I muttered to myself.

What was your inspiration to write The Lady and the Scoundrel? I am a writer and full-time editor for many different projects, including a short story magazine. I wanted to write a contemporary romance inspired by my favorite romance novels as an exercise in discipline, to see if I could take on longer writing projects. There are several winks to what once was one of my favorite romance novels sprinkled throughout the story, so you can say it’s very loosely inspired by that one.
