There’s no way the two of them thought Raina and I sneaking into the Blood Moon pack was a good idea. “Just listen,” said Liam, his face serious enough that I sat back and let him continue. “You and Raina can sneak in under the cover of darkness. You get in and look around, even if it’s from the outskirts of the pack. You’re both trained in stealth and know how to keep to the shadows and remain unseen.”

Brett POV We managed to hit the road before 8pm. Being end of November the evenings were already dark by 5pm, so we had a good cover of darkness to move on. It is a cold chilly evening and Lugh looks ridiculous wrapped up in numerous layers of clothing. He can hardly move his arms as his coat sleeves are extremely tight with all the layers under them. Wils and I can’t help but giggle. I sat in the back with Willow resting next to me. Lugh was driving in front listening to some music on the media system.

By evening we found ourselves at the old stone fountain at the edge of the beach path. Water moved softly around the carved stone base. The sun was finishing its work on the sky above the water, burning it down through orange and deep pink into the first pale blue of coming night. Laila had her knees pulled to her chest, watching the color change with the serious attention she gave things she loved. I was watching her. She caught me looking and she did not look away. She just held my gaze with those dark steady eyes and waited with all the patience in the world, because Laila had patience that shamed most things I had ever witnessed.

“Rhys is cooking it tonight, under the blood moon. I saw it. He wants my child’s power.” Derrick clenched his jaw and pounded the table with his fist. “That bastard. Where?” “I can’t say exactly where,” I confessed, despising how it put me in such a helpless position. “But it’s close. The visions… they’re connected to the energy of the moon. It’s happening now.” Jonas marched ahead, speaking with the conviction that rang out naturally from him. “We've been around to the eastern ridge. It’s a clearing there, old ruins. It’s a probable place for a ritual.”

“Sweetheart, there’s not enough fire in this world for that.” Selene came down the stairs wrapped in a coat, her hair loose. Caius followed, buttoning his shirt halfway, trying to look composed. Lena arched a brow. “You look… well-rested.” Selene ignored her and focused on Lydia, who sat by the window, humming softly to herself. “Morning, sweetheart,” Selene said. I asked him, forcing a smile. "Yes, that's right, dear, you will." "So, what is the plan for this month?" I asked them, trying to lighten the mood somewhat. "Well, it is nearly the end of the month, so therefore, the end of the year. We traditionally have a bonfire, as the moon for December is called the cold moon, along with the oak moon and the long night's moon. We typically try to burn at least some oak during the bonfire, but it's mostly staving off the long and cold night with the fire. This year, though, I would like to make it a bit of a pre New Year's party for the pack."

“Good Morning, Alpha Regent Bronx Andreas Mason! Joyeux anniversaire [Happy birthday], Luna Regent Goddess Iokaste Mason! How are you feeling, mon ami?” Delilah breezes into the Bronx’s office with Musu and kisses me on both cheeks. She sets down a round cake.
