Leaders Eat Last Novels & Stories

I’d seen what his leadership did to men who once had fire in their eyes. My chest tightened, but I kept my expression still. No one could know that beneath the calm, my heart was racing hard enough to bruise my ribs. “Leonardo, you gave up your seat , you don’t exactly have a say here,” one of the rulers said from the end of the table. Elder Morthen Varrick was a man carved from the old laws. He was unbending, sharp-tongued, and loyal to protocol like it was his religion.

Before the birthday party even began, Jeannie Collins cast her phone screen onto the large display in the private room. Then she started an anonymous poll in the group chat she shared with all our mutual friends. The question was simple: [Should I stay with my boyfriend to cut the birthday cake tonight, or go with my childhood friend to his movie premiere?] Thirty seconds. The countdown began. The numbers kept climbing. [Childhood friend: 17 votes.] [Boyfriend: 1 vote.] Everyone assumed that one vote was mine. Jeannie leaned back against the couch, glanced at the results, and smiled. "Majority rules." Marvin Snyder immediately slipped the movie tickets into her hand. "Looks like eve

“Stepping down would have validated false narratives.” His voice remained steady. “I stayed. I rebuilt. And we stabilized.” He looked around the table carefully. “If you believe temporary doubt disqualifies leadership, then remove me now.” No one moved. No one spoke. After a long moment, the oldest director cleared his throat. “Every leader doubts. Not every leader stays.” The tension broke. Subtly. But definitively. That night, Lewis stood on the balcony again. Elizabeth joined him quietly. “You won that room,” she said.

It meant more because neither man gave praise lightly. Adrian dabbed the corner of his mouth with his napkin before speaking again. "Leadership is rarely about hearing what's said." His gaze settled on me. "It's about noticing what isn't." I found myself thinking back to the market. The council. Even today. How often people had communicated without ever saying exactly what they meant. Perhaps... That was one of the first lessons every Luna had to learn. The next course was served. For a few moments, only the soft clink of cutlery broke the silence.

'' Kevin asked. Gray gets up from the seat and said,'' Tell me that I am the one who's going?''. '' The surprise follows after this. Every leader in charge is supposed to go. And can take one team member with them. Take one as you like. Get it done within two days. On the third day, we will be leaving. The business deal this time is very much important. The one who will be able to get the business deal for us will have the highest points for this competition. Lucy is still at the highest. If you gotta win you gotta bring the deal for us. So hurry up and gather your luggage and start working on it.''

I need her in my life, so I'm going to do everything I can to keep her there. "How many?" I direct my question to him. His lips set into a thin line hinting that the information that I'm about to hear is not going to be pleasant. "We don't have a specific number sir, but the army is much larger than it was then. Maybe even double in size." I nod my head. "And the leader?" "My guys are still working on finding him, but we had no such luck. He and his pack are good. Whenever we have a lead on them it's like they know and throw it off. From what we have gathered they have taken down several more packs around us."

"You challenged your father? Then why didn't you want your older brother to take over from him? That's common, isn't it?" I shake my head in distress. "Yes, that is our culture. But my brother is not a leader, but a follower. He can only execute orders and is great at developing combat strategies. But he lacks decisiveness and determination. He is more of a Beta, but not an Alpha," I tell her. "Leadership cannot be defined by age, but rather by insight and talent. Hedrick will lead the pack to ruin. I grew up in it and I wanted to protect my packmate from the debacle.

she explained. "Each division has a leader that reports to another leader, who reports to Luca. This system makes sure he stays in the know, but it also ensures he doesn't get bogged down by the minute details. Each elder is able to make decisions for their own part of the pack, but ultimately, everything goes through Luca for approval." I nodded slowly, impressed by the system he'd set up. Maybe his MBA wasn't as worthless as he thought it was. "I'll go rescue him," Ben said, laughing.

She leans forward, closer to the screen, her gaze steady. "To admit you are overwhelmed and seek the advice of your immediate circle—who have hundreds of years of experience—is a sign you are a natural-born leader." She glances at River and Cade. "And respect to your mates for giving you space to figure this out instead of trying to solve it for you." River's jaw tightens, but he nods. Cade's hand lands on my shoulder. Luna Elizabeth straightens. "Having said that, I now defer to the oldest alpha in the room with a strong, proven track record of successful leadership." She turns to Alpha Rian. "Alpha Rian."

I say and Lucas can sense my annoyance and drops that portion of the conversation. “Okay, Leo, let me try and explain the Alpha thing. Humans have leaders. Each one of their countries has a king or a president, or some bat-shit crazy tyrant. They are sometimes born into royalty or they are elected. But physically all humans are the same, no special powers. Some are smarter yes, but brains have nothing to do with leadership for them. They have proven that over and over again, which is why we keep them in the dark.” I smile at Lucas’ explanation so far.
