When she was alone again, Leah sat at her father’s desk. She looked around the room, at the old books, the heavy chair, the scent of his cologne still hanging in the air. For a moment, her expression softened. She touched the desk gently. “You promised to make me Luna someday,” she whispered. “I’ll do it myself now, even if you almost broke that promise by trying to marry someone.”
Her mind drifted briefly to Doria Welsh. She imagined her walking into the pack with her father’s body still cold, acting as though she belonged there. Leah’s jaw tightened. “She will never take this from me,” she said aloud. “Never.”
