He rapidly turned pages. “And this one is a Grizzly bear. And that’s a black bear. Oh, this one is really tough, a Polar bear-” Nicoli went on.

“What about the bears up there?” “Oh, that’s another thing that’s changed. In the New Year, Leland wants to talk about me consulting on creating a version of pack territory with him for the bears in general. It seems he has a large number of bear families camping right now on his land, and he’s worried about winter so close.”

Lacey thought, knowing she needed to work off some steam. The black bear rose on its hind legs and growled loudly again, staking its claim on the territory. However, when Lacey rose to her feet, revealing her massive size, the bear turned and started to run... but Lacey was faster. In two bounds, Lacey tackled the bear to the ground and sank her teeth into its neck, snapping it at the same time, not wanting to cause the bear any more pain than necessary. She angrily tore off slabs of steaming, hot meat until she had eaten her fill, and then left the rest for the other predators of the forest to finish off.

Of course Christopher Henry Jameson—also known as Beast- wasn't the average man. He stood 6'5" and weighed three hundred and two pounds. He didn't like the extra three pounds. He rather liked being in the two hundred weight range even if it was by just one or two pounds. Regardless, there wasn't an ounce of fat on his perfect body. Beast was muscles on top of muscles, yet not hulking like some of the others that worked in the Marine Corps division assigned to The Department of Home Land Security, or better known as DHS. Other cages lined the perimeter of a clearing. A low, guttural growl rumbled from the shadows to her left. A mountain lion, pacing tight circles in a box barely big enough to turn around in. To her right, a massive shape shifted in the darkness. The scent of bear was pungent and undeniable. Heather’s mind raced back to the young she-bear she had been tracking earlier—the one she failed to find. Was she here too? “Looking at a big payout tonight, boys,” one of the men laughed, wiping grease onto his jeans.

Noel even spotted a small otter scurrying across the dirt road and back into the brush that covered the landscape. Noel loved Tuesdays, the one day a week Wes Stapleton made sure he avoided Everglades, turning it over to Brianna Hughes to run for the day so he and Noel could have a day to themselves. Noel reached over and stroked the reddish-brown fur of the giant bear who walked beside her, grabbing a fistful and shaking it a little. Wes loved the day as well, she knew, because he could shift and allow his animal to roam, a sight that at first scared the hell out of Noel.

There were older healers who had served the pack for decades and they did not like the idea of a young outsider taking their place. But Leslie proved them wrong. She had studied medicine outside the Obsidian Veil for several years before returning. She knew modern human medicine and she also possessed the healing abilities of a gifted wolf.

” I asked, making sure to remain bigger and more in control than the she-Bear, even though a part of me still wanted to avert my eyes when I looked at her. She smelled like the forest after a storm, crisp and alluring. With a forced shake, I pushed away the building attraction and continued our chase. She was agile and strong, which allowed for her to jump over fallen trees and a creek that I would have expected a new wolf to be afraid

The bear’s eyes glinted in the moonlight, and it let out a low growl, its breath visible in the cold air. Damien stepped forward, summoning his wolf as his eyes flashed a deep golden hue. The bear, sensing the dominance in Damien’s stance, hesitated. They locked eyes for a moment, a silent battle of wills. Damien didn’t flinch, his wolf’s presence exuding authority, a natural command that few creatures dared challenge. After what felt like an eternity, the bear let out a huff and turned away, lumbering back into the forest.

It made me so small, feel like nothing but a side piece. “Glen, where did you get these teddy bears from?” He paused the movie and I froze. Leslie was very observant which was why she has always been my biggest fear. Glen didn't look disturbed though. “Someone from work brought them over. Thought I'd be a funny joke.” Leslie examined the bear, an inquisitive frown on her face. Her mouth was bent downwards in a way it always did when she was heavily thinking about something.
