My head tipped back and my mouth opened. My breath leaves my lungs in a broken gasp. No. No. No no no.

Cyran suddenly took hold of my shoulder. My eyes flew to his, but I couldn't quite make him out. Why the hell was everything getting dim all of a sudden? "Hey! Hey! Hey, breathe. Breathe, Vesper," he yelled, his voice piercing through the ringing in my ear, and that was when I realized I was holding my breath. I let go, blowing out a sharp breath before sucking in a lungful of air, the heat behind my eyes scorching. "There. There. Just like that..." He whispered softly, his eyes roaming over my face.
