Dear Leo, It's been seven years since I met you in the parking lot of our high school and now I share your last name. You're at work right now so I'm writing you a letter for old times sake because it's our two year wedding anniversary today and I thought I'd bring back the thing that put us in each other's lives in the first place - letters. This time, I'm not writing to myself but instead to you because you're my rock. The funny thing to me was how I found you when I wasn't even looking.

It felt soft in the hands but somehow, it felt like the words inside it was heavy. Gently, I tore open the letter, my eyes getting blurred from the contents. The tiny handwriting incripted perfectly into the letter made my chest tightened as I read. Dear Ava, Our friendship within the past weeks has been fun, your smile, your laughter and your courage. Most times I get intimidated by your courage. I know you must be thinking that I had betrayed our friendship but I swear on our bond, I will forever be a loyal friend. You must be thinking about going to save Caleb but I beg you, Logan has his eyes everywhere. I will be back soon, I just need to get some things right.

Please, just focus on taking care of your sick boyfriend. I will be fine.

I didn’t think much of it—until she read a part out loud: "I can’t get in touch with my friend, but I want her to know I’m okay and that I think about her all the time. What should I do?” I froze. Then I rushed over to Liliane and yanked the tablet out of her hands. My heart was pounding, and I was trying not to cry. “Nicolas...” I whispered. “You know him?” Liliane asked, puzzled by my reaction. “Yeah, he’s a friend—and he knows about Lisa. I want to answer that letter first!” I said firmly. “A friend, huh? You’ve got a lot of guy friends, don’t you?” Liliane teased. I ignored her and just wrote his name in my response notebook, along with the reply I planned to give.

She seemed pleasant so it made sense, “Write a letter to Damian. Thank him for helping you and let him know you still want to be friends. It might help because he might want to come here and explain everything to you." I immediately grabbed a pen and paper, and I poured my heart into a letter, expressing my gratitude to Damian for his role in my liberation. Despite it all, I affirmed my desire to remain friends. I had liked our friendship because of this and I wanted it to go back to the way it was.

IT MAKES ME GIDDY INSIDE. He clears his throat, "Hey, we don't have to be so awkward to each other. Can we just move on?" Easy for him to say. I take my hands off my face. "Can I read the letter aloud?" He asks me while scanning through the letter I gave to him. "Yes! It is yours," I exclaim. He opens the letter and read it loudly while sitting beside me. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEONEL. I WISH YOU THE BEST FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY AND KNOW THAT I AM ALWAYS BE YOUR ANNOYING FRIEND THAT YOU LIKE THE MOST.

The letter read: Dear Astrid, I hope this letter finds you well, my dear friend! I’ve been meaning to write to you for some time now, but the whirlwind of my travels has kept me quite busy. Every day, I meet so many strangers and make friends with them. It was fun to make friends with a human without them knowing that I’m actually a werewolf.

We were close like brothers and I never had that with my brother, but I hope your mate can keep you happy. The mate bond is something special and no words can describe the joy you feel when you're with them. I'm feeling that happiness now and I wish you the same. My son Archer is getting bigger now and I want to meet you again. I want him to meet you as my longest friend. Goodbye, for now, I hope to hear from you soon. Alpha Maxwell. I was shocked and my expression was stoned because of the contents of the message, it was a peaceful letter to Gebe and probably the last.

Papa said he would drive, and Mama said she needed to get something from the woman by the junction like this was any ordinary day, and somehow that small normal thing kept me from tipping over.
