The drawing was crooked but sweet, then beside the horse was something that looked like a wolf. “What's this?” I asked “It's you…” “That’s me?” I was shocked. She nodded. “Yes, see I got your hair right, it's bigggg.” Lexi chuckled again, covering her mouth. “She’s not wrong.” I smiled and folded the drawing carefully. “Then I’ll keep it.” Later, when they were inside, Lexi stood to collect the mugs. “You’re good with them,” she said without looking at me.

The air carried spun sugar, cedar smoke, and the bright squeals of pups racing between game and food stalls. A brass carousel chimed a lilting tune as painted horses rose and dipped in a tide of laughter. Ryker’s banner rippled above the main stage. Beside it, a new standard waited, white field, silver crescent, a braid of storm-blue at the edge: Lyra’s crest.
