I took the mouse from him and scrolled it up and read what I found.

“I know that she did not run away. Whoever had taken her, they took her from here and that annoys me more than anything because we cannot find any surveillance or footage about it.” I pressed my hands against the table until the wood groaned under my palms. Her scent was gone from the hallways, from the sheets, from every place I’d found her warmth before. Only emptiness remained. The phone on the desk buzzed once. Then again. Unknown number. I stared at it for a second too long before I answered. “Liam.” The voice slid through the receiver like a blade through silk—smooth, confident, venom wrapped in civility. “Darius.”

She said as she replaced the gun and walked back to the easy chair before finishing another glass and heaving from the bitter feeling that slithered past her throat to her earlobes and back. He cracked his knuckles and rested backwards on the bed. He pushed his hair back leaving some connected strands dangling on his forehead. She felt tired. Eyes droopy and brain pending. If what he was saying was true, and that he knew she was dangerous, why would he risk his life and approach her? He was waiting for her so he couldn't possibly be the 'thing' following her on her way home. What was that thing? Why was a Hian Hoshi there? What did he want from her? Why did Levi hold her?
