Turning to Kael and the rest of the pack, he commanded, “Hoist him onto the pole.” Immediately, Kael and the others moved, lifting the fiercely resisting stranger onto a sturdy wooden pole near the hut. His arms were bound securely with vines, immobilized against escape. The pack formed a protective circle, poised to intervene if necessary, tension tightening the air like a drawn bowstring. “You won’t make me talk so easily,” the stranger muttered under his breath. The Alpha’s expression remained unwavering. Courage was evident, but determination ran deeper. A girl from squad D was mid-sprint arms pumping, when— A snarl tore through the air. A blur of black fur—a rogue wolf barreled into her from the side. She hit the ground hard, screaming. The rogue wolf lunged, jaws snapping towards her neck. Before it could connect, a dozen recruits swarmed the beast, clawing and fighting off. But it howled And the ground trembled. The sound of paws thundering across the earth grew louder. Then they appeared. Dozens of rogue wolves, eyes red and hungry, charged through the trees. Recruits screamed chaos erupting.

The wolf’s body hovered inches from the stranger’s outstretched hand. Completely immobilized. Jarek’s heart slammed violently in his chest. “That’s not possible,” he whispered. The stranger examined the suspended wolf with mild interest. “Strong,” he admitted. Then he flicked his fingers. The wolf flew backward. Not thrown. Launched. His body smashed through three trees before disappearing into the forest with a thunderous crash. Silence returned. Jarek and the remaining warrior stared in horror. The stranger brushed imaginary dust from his sleeve. “I would prefer not to waste time fighting,” he said calmly.

Their leader stepped forward, his gaze locking onto me. “So it’s true,” he said. “The girl who bends wolves.” Justin moved in front of me. “You’re not welcome here.” The stranger smiled. “I didn’t come to fight. I came to warn you.” The pack tensed. “Word of her power is spreading,” the wolf said. “Some Alphas want alliances. Others want control.” “And you?” Justin asked coldly. The wolf’s eyes flicked to me. “I want to survive.” He turned and disappeared back into the forest as quickly as he came.

I keep looking forward; I must keep moving forward. We are greeted with a paralyzing scene. I see wolves I've never seen before. They have all the Omegas and pups corralled in the corner. They have silver weapons, and the Omegas are trying to shield the pups. The worst part was in the middle of the room, huddled together are the ranked pups, and the wolf who is hoovering over them is none other than Tate Cozad.

A strangled noise of pain and irritation left my throat as I turned my head to see the blood dripping down the wolf's face from where my nails had sliced him open. His jaw was clenched, holding me firmly in his muzzle. I snapped at him, making him jump to the side. His hold twisted, sending searing pain up my leg, but I went for him again, getting a hold of his ear and ripping. The rogue released me as he cried out in pain, and I made quick work of shaking off the other wolf and tearing this one's throat out, ending his life.

"I know. But we don't know what these things are." The strange wolves charged without warning. They moved as one unit, their black eyes fixed on the patrol. Laura's heart hammered against her ribs as the forest erupted into chaos. A creature with matted gray fur lunged at Renn, who dodged sideways and slashed at its flank. Blood sprayed from the wound, black and thick like tar, but the wolf didn't even flinch. It turned, jaws snapping at Renn's throat. Kade was already locked in combat with another, their bodies rolling across the forest floor in a blur of teeth and claws. All around them, Crimson Fang warriors fought desperately against the strange pack.
