Bainer’s eyes filled with tears. She fell to her knees, bowing her head. "Thank you, Jade. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you."
Embarrassed, I quickly pulled her to her feet. "Don’t do that. Just . . . keep wearing long sleeves. No one can know we did this."
She nodded earnestly. "I’ll take it to my grave."
The bell for lunch rang, cutting through the moment.
My stomach grumbled loudly, and I realized I’d missed breakfast.
