The rain begins to pick up as Lily moves through the trees, but thankfully the thick foliage over her head keeps the trees from reaching her and she stays mostly dry until she reaches the clearing with the forgotten childhood dreams. She is so excited looking at the slide, the swings, the grass, and the sky that it takes her a long moment to realize something. She is not alone.

Both children shook their heads in awe, fixing their young, inquisitive eyes upon the Queen standing beside them. "These are known as tiger lilies," the Queen remarked, gently caressing the flowers as she spoke. "Observe the black spots on them; they bear a resemblance to a tiger's markings." Perplexed, the children tilted their heads, seeking further clarification. Killian voiced his curiosity, "What makes them so significant?" Amused, the Queen chuckled and replied, "This flower symbolizes the plea, 'Please, love me.' Offering someone a tiger lily signifies a request for their affection."

"Petunias symbolize anger and resentment. But they also symbolize not losing hope." Lilly chuckled. "We thought that fit pretty damned well." Nia's snicker was wet as she turned back to the kids she'd saved all those years ago. Tears fell freely from her eyes. "You're amazing. Both of you." Lilly walked forward, got to her knees in front of Nia. "Because you taught us." She laid her head in Nia's lap and cried softly.

“You are not becoming like him. You’re twelve years old. You’re supposed to be drawing butterflies and worrying about homework and playing with that damn puppy. Not this. Not violence. Not blood on your hands.” Lily’s lower lip trembled, the first crack in her armor since they had found her sitting calmly on the burning porch. “But I can’t, Ceddy. Because butterflies die. And homework doesn’t matter when bad men come to take you away. Only staying alive matters. Only keeping you and Mommy safe matters.”

(Natasha) "Lee. Lee-am. Come on, it's two syllables and you've got two." Liam's been on the floor with Lily for twenty minutes, saying his own name at her like a man teaching a parrot to insult his enemies. Lily considers him with enormous patience and grabs his nose. "She's going to say it," he announces. "First word. Mark the date. History will be made." "She'll say it when she says it," Mom calls from the stove, not turning round.

Zale felt even more guilty about the way he had treated her. Finally, they reached a small pond in the middle of the garden. " Right there," Zale noticed a beautiful flower bush right beside the pond which Lily was pointing at. The bush was full of vibrant purple flowers, and they looked like they were glowing in the moonlight. Lily reached out and plucked one of the blooms. She held it up to her nose and inhaled deeply, a smile on her face. "Isn't it amazing how something so small can be so beautiful?" she said, turning to look at Zale.

Ryder recognized this place, it was Lily's special getaway cabin he had built for her to go to whenever she needed a break. Lily was talking to another girl who wore a cape which covered her features. "Why didn't you wear the cape Lily? I told you to always wear it anytime we went to the cabin." the girl said in a scolding tone. "Come on Claw, who would suspect us of doing anything suspicious and would actually have the time to follow us around?" Lily said with a laugh. "Lily, we are growing a contraband plant. We could get in trouble if anyone discovered what we were truly up to in this cabin." the girl said.

The sight filled Sophia’s heart, grounding her in a moment of peace that felt hard-won after the chaos they had endured. “Mommy, what’s this one called?” Lily’s tiny voice interrupted her reveries Sophia approached, kneeling beside them. “That’s a tulip, sweetheart. It’s one of my favorites.” Lily’s nose scrunched as she considered the flower. “It’s pretty, but I like the pink ones more.” Ethan chuckled, brushing dirt off his hands. “She’s got your discerning taste, Sophia.” Sophia smirked, nudging him gently. “Let’s hope she doesn’t inherit your stubborn streak.”

Ours now. Sofia wanted to grow flowers, so I helped her plant a dozen lily bulbs in the front yard. White ones, like the ones Leonardo had brought that one time—except these were ours, not his. She watered them every morning before school, even when she was sleepy. She talked to them too. I would hear her whispering to the tiny green shoots, telling them to grow fast. In the spring, the first lily bloomed. Sofia knelt beside it, closed her eyes, and breathed in deeply.
