It called my name." Lily mentioned. "Then the next part confirms it." Zalakai said, as Erica walked in with two bowls of steaming popcorn. "Oh, may I?" He asked. Erica passed over a bowl. "I've always been curious about popcorn."

The office was mostly quiet so I could hear them laugh in there, doing whatever women do in a ladies room. A short time before six Lilly left the room and left a large bag by her desk. She was wearing a gorgeous dress, way too classy for some deli-boy. I could see the red on her lips from the lipstick she wore. Her long blonde hair, which usually is up in a tight hairdo, was loose and fell in soft waves down her back.

Her voice changed completely while she talked to Lily. It became softer and calmer, almost friendly. “This is serious. Someone is missing, and I have a bad feeling about it. We need to find him before it’s too late.” Lily must have agreed almost immediately because Lila came back to me only a few moments later. “She’s helping,” she said. “Lily is one of the best investigators I know. She’s also an amazing hacker. She can get information that most people can’t. Sometimes she follows the law, and sometimes she bends the rules if that’s what it takes to save someone. Just give her a few minutes. She’s already working.”

The bang continued, it was barely audible, like someone was struggling to send a message out and with the faint sound of the bang, you could tell whoever it was, really was weak. My eyes widened.. who could it be? Then suddenly, a faint voice followed. "Help..." My entire body went rigid as I heard the voice. My heart stopped. Because I knew that voice. I would know that voice anywhere. "Lilith." And slowly... Very slowly... I turned back toward the house.

A few seconds after the call connected, Lily’s voice came through. “Did you give everything to her?” Xena let out a cold laugh. “Lily, what exactly is this supposed to mean?”

I stop a few feet away. She looks up. Our eyes lock. The moment stretches. Everything else fades. I force my lips into a smile. My voice comes out shaky. “Hi, Lily. I’m Ivy. I’ve seen your work. It’s incredible. Really great.” The praise feels clumsy on my tongue. But it’s honest. I hold my breath.

I turned to leave, but her voice burst through my head, halting my steps. *Don’t even think about it* Lily growled, wiggling her hands off my hold and clutching her ears as she wailed. "Mummy,” she cried. My brows furrowed in confusion. Lily, can Mind link? I stared at her in horror, taking her up in my arms. “It’s okay, princess," I consoled. “Look at me, look at Mommy," I ushered. She nods, a tear slipping down from her eyes, which I hurriedly wiped away.
