I had failed her, despite promising myself that I wouldn't let her cry. My mood soured and I felt shittier than before. “Let's sleep.” She nudged, trying to place my back on the bed. I resisted. “Damon,” she sighed. “What if I have another nightmare?” I had had five nightmares in two days. I didn't think closing my eyes was a luxury I wanted to engage in anymore. It was as if the demons in my subconscious lurked around nearby, ready to yank me into darkness anytime I let down my guard and closed my eyes.

May.2050 The nightmare woke her again, she groaned as she stirred lazily to check the digital alarm clock beside her colt. It was 4am, she groaned again. Drilling starts by 5 and she knew there was no chance to steal a little bit more sleep, she lay back down to ponder over her constant dreams, dreams which she had begun to get used to that she didn’t wake up screaming in terror anymore, it had always been the same nightmare every night, the blood curdling screams of a tortured man, flashes of lights and the grim goggled faces of people in long white coats.

She knew her nightmare will soon turn to reality and this nightmarish reality will make her life hell. Elena Singh was a 22 years old working woman like every normal women but was her life really normal like others? She was unique, she was talented, she was brave, she was independent yet she was terrified, not of anyone else but herself. Why? Before it got worse. I would intend to ask my mom if I could stay home or pretend to be sick. But I couldn’t. I fought every morning. But nothing changed in a positive way. I could only say less and less. It didn’t help that I couldn’t sleep. Every time I started to feel sleep pull me, I was immediately ripped into the middle of a nightmare. The themes were the same. Dark forest. Hands all over me. Sometimes I would nearly see my salvation, a pair of silver eyes, but other times I wouldn’t.

Toys lay scattered everywhere, abandoned, and age had dulled all the colors or peeled them off completely. Though I didn't spend more than a couple of weeks here, it was actually the best couple of weeks of my life back then. That was, of course until he gave me to the Nightmare Master. Instantly, I brushed that thought out of my head, refusing to think about that time. It wasn't a good time, and dwelling on it would only bring up memories that I really didn't want to face. Evelyn helplessly looked at him and answered, “I didn't do it. It suddenly hurt even though I didn't break the wall again. It's just that when I try to remember the contents of the scene that I have dreamed about earlier, my heart suddenly hurt.” Hearing this, his brows furrowed even more as he leaned his body closer to her face and kissed his forehead. “What did you just dream?” He softly asked while soothing her, and gradually her headache disappeared. “I dreamed of my memories from the past.
