Jane said, chewing her nails and Lia smacked her arm.

Jane’s POV I felt like if I blinked for one second, I would miss it all. It was heat and cold altogether, embracing me. It had to be the waves and the cold it carried. I wrapped my hand around my frame, wishing I hadn’t listened to Laura and her choice of clothing. Wishing I hadn’t come here at all. Because, deep down, I knew all it took was one wrong move. He looked like the night, with dark hair falling across his face, dark eyes, and an imposingly tall frame. He overshadowed everyone easily, and I had to remind myself to breathe.

It felt like she was still here with me, in this room, and for a moment, I forgot about everything else. I heaved a heavy sigh and turned around, but something caught my attention on her bookshelf. There, nestled between the works of Jane Austen, was a small leather-bound journal that I had never seen before. I picked it up, feeling its soft cover under my fingertips and carefully flipping through the pages. As I read her delicate handwriting, my heart ached with both joy and sadness. This journal was a window into her thoughts, her feelings, her dreams. It was like a piece of her that I had never known before.

The vibrant vibes I once shared with Jane seemed to fade, leaving a disconcerting void within me. It’s almost amusing to watch her move through the packet, and I imagine if someone had been watching me earlier, my reaction would have been much the same. The first few pages don’t hold much information of interest, but about halfway through the dossier, things get interesting – to say the least.

Sally wasn’t too sure about this, she didn’t feel like chatting with Jane, but she was excited to see what Jane might have picked out for her, it might be an Audrey Niffenegger or a new Jennifer Egan she hadn’t read. Jane nipped into the back room and appeared a moment later with a thick, green pamphlet. “I think you might find this very interesting,” she said, handing it to Sally.
